The Golden Hour

Kickin' it straight up bag lady, today. Frumptastic. ^_^ Don't get me wrong, I love this oversized brown coat, but I still call it my "bag lady coat," because it has a hobo vibe. I'm surprised it didn't come with a shopping cart. Heh. Anyway, as you can see, it f*cking snowed. >_< Yep! Winter is here, apparently. Well, I refuse to acknowledge its presence until Winter Solstice, so I wear earth tones in defiance.

Anyway, don't let the bright photos fool you. Yes, it was around 4:00 PM when these photos were taken, but the sun was setting and darkness began its inevitable descent. This would have been a much nicer photo if it hadn't been overcast. The purple and pink empyrean and sunlight peeking through the bare trees would have given this outfit a more romantic vintage feel. Instead you get a sea of white and the ferocious headlights of passing cars. Sorry! Haha. Headlights at 4:00 PM? Damn, you Winter.

This was one of the last photos taken and it was getting dark pretty quickly, so the colors are off. Sorry! >_<

Admittedly, my partner and I spent way too much time having lunch. We woke up really late, rolled out of bed and traveled a couple blocks to a cozy tavern. It's the kind of place where the wait staff treat you like an old friend, the dining room is dimly lit and there's a steady buzz of conversation. No one really looks your way or bothers you. As you can imagine, we love being there. So, when our server asked if we wanted our coffee topped off and we had been there for two hours, of course we said 'yes' and asked for a raisin danish, too. It wasn't until I was halfway through my coffee that I looked out of a window, saw the headlights of passing cars and thought...'maybe I should take a picture of what I'm wearing now? If we stay here any longer, that ship will sail.' Haha. And so here we are. ^_^ <3

I'm wearing a completely remixed outfit. You last saw the vintage yellow cardigan here, the carrot orange pleated skirt here and the wonderful vintage Jack Winter sweater here. Incidentally, the last time I wore the Jack Winter, there was snow on the ground. So, way to come full circle, I guess. Hehe.

Ah, this outfit has one of my favorite color stories, but that "hobo" coat is the icing on the cake. I love it too!

I laughed at your story about almost missing the light. Been there and done that! It is nice though when you remember and get the light in time, as you did here :)

Hehe, thanks! I really should have gotten a medium or large in the coat instead of a size small. I got taken in by how oversized it looked in the product photo and I forgot my penchant for wearing two sweaters and a cardigan underneath my coats in the winter. So, I'm looking super frumpy, but at least I was warm. :DDD

I keep saying it's winter even though it's technically not because when we get snow storms bad enough to cancel school and temperatures under 40 degrees and the sun sets at 3:56 -- it's winter.

I appreciate your earth tones! They help keep us cheery. And frump it up, lady. Nothing like some chunky layers to keep us feeling cozy and protected from this satanic cold front.

Yay for lazy mornings and two-hour restaurant sits! J and I went out to dinner for the first time in a while and we sat at the bar for a long time and it was awesome. I love smaller venues. :D

"I'm surprised it didn't come with a shopping cart"- haha, you are hilarious :) Outfit pics definitely become harder when the days are shorter, sometimes it's on my to-do list and then I'm like "oh crap, the sun is setting- oops". Love the color combo and I think brights are necessary in the winter!

Yeah, winter is my least favorite time for photography. Biting winds and numb extremities make for a terrible experience. Haha. I took so many hits for the team in years past. I don't know how bloggers do it. This year, I'm getting smart. I've decided that I can wear complicated outfits in cold weather without having to show every little detail (i.e. take off a bunch of stuff). So, as things get harsher, the most I'll do is unbutton my coat, but that's it. Those outfits are really challenging to create, but I'm getting the hang of it!
