Finishing off January with a monochromatic, mixed pattern, eye sore and potential seizure inducing extravaganza. This is a minimalist outfit that makes the most out of two very distinct pieces.
I started with the leather collar houndstooth dress and then just kept things very simple and elegant with the sheer tights, fedora and vintage men's wingtip tassel loafers. It was this dress that I had worn underneath a black and white striped vintage dress from earlier in the month, but I had worn it just for the leather collar. This time, I'm showing off the dress in its entirety, but with an added twist. :DDD
The outfit looks painfully normal without a coat. It wasn't terribly cold, as it was in the 40's. I know! I can hardly believe it, myself. o_O So, I could have gone without a coat, but I decided to use outerwear to my advantage and value aesthetics over practicality. A black coat would have sealed the deal just fine, but I thought I'd kick things up a notch by wearing a coat with the exact same pattern scheme. In this way, I created something that's very meta. Hehe. The outfit basically looks the same with the coat buttoned up and with the coat removed. I very much enjoy engaging in this kind of witchcraft. >:D
So, as much as I try to avoid wearing black during the winter months, I feel somewhat vindicated, because I made an effort to use the color in the most interesting way possible. However, for some much needed color contrast, I added the bright blue bag. As you know, I just love black and blue, so I couldn't resist. Also, wearing a black bag would have been totally acceptable, but it would have represented a missed opportunity, in my mind. If you have the chance to do something unexpected, you should take it. I think this advice is well worth taking, not just with regard to fashion, but also in my personal life. <3
