Meet Dana of I've Got Cake
I have to say that this Blogger Spotlight is long overdue. I've been following Dana's style for a couple of years, now, and I've yet to be disappointed. Not only is she a better cook than I'll ever be haha, she is a hell of a dresser! I've seen Dana do some amazing layer looks for Fall/Winter, but I have to say that, IMO, her signature style is minimalist chic (the bane of my existence!). Dana puts together the most sophisticated ensembles with ease and with so few pieces to work with. She has a real talent. The outfit on the left is one of my absolute favorites. The luxe coat with the jeans is perfect. The play on textures is lovely to look at and she wears the look with such confidence. I always say that how you carry an outfit is just as important as how you put the pieces together. Dana always oozes confidence and, while the pieces she chose may seem common and easy to put together, I doubt that just *anyone* could pull off the look the way she does. She owns it. |
Again, this is why the look on the right is so incredibly successful. The top and bottom appear to be understated and rather insignificant. However, their power is largely derived from the wearer. It's a quiet style, yet speaks volumes. Over the years, I've come to appreciate Dana's style as timeless. I think that everything she wears could easily be worn five or ten years from now and still be impactful and relevant. That is not an easy feat to accomplish by any means. I know that there are certain styles that I will inevitably leave behind as part of a phase or as parts of myself evolve. So, I'm envious of how stable and comfortable Dana appears to be with her style and with herself. I hope to find that kind of contentment one day. If and when I do, I would also hope that my style rises to Dana's level. <3 |
