Every time I wear a bow tie, I get stared at. Every.....time. Haha. I bet it's because I'm a woman and ties are supposed to be for dudes or whatever. I don't subscribe to those stupid gender roles, though. I've been reading about male celebrities going around wearing dresses and it's a big deal, apparently. Why, though? Because *only* women are supposed to wear dresses and skirts? Says who? Is there some fashion deity that has made it a sin for men to wear skirts and for women to wear suits and ties?
Come the f*ck on, man. >_< None of it matters. Hehe. I think it says something about the state of the world in which we live, when people have time to pontificate about the most appropriate way to cover oneself with fabric. If a dude wants to wear a dress or a skirt, awesome. If I want to wear a suit or a bow tie, then why not? Bow ties are cool! That alone is a good enough reason for anyone to wear them. :P
Sorry. I didn't plan to ramble like that. Hehe. So. Yeah. I wanted to celebrate the end of my T-Shirt Challenge with an ensemble that is quintessentially me. *^_^* So, I built an outfit around a nerdy tee. I've had it for ages and I typically get compliments on it. :DDD To make myself look more masculine, I rolled up the sleeves for a muscle tee vibe. Then, I added a few of my favorite menswear items. :P
The grey polka dot bow tie belonged to my partner. He had to wear it for a wedding. I know that he isn't too keen on having to wear things around his neck, so I wasn't surprised that he let me have it when I asked. I knew he wouldn't wear it, again, and I'd hate to see such a cool bow tie go to waste. ;D
The fedora, suspenders and men's vintage tassel loafers were thrifted. I cherish all three. ^_^ To make things a little more interesting, I wore the orange fox socks that I was lucky enough to receive from my past sponsor, Sock It To Me. I think they matched the overall outfit really well, but still managed to be subtle in the grand scheme of things. I did notice some people checking out my feet and smiling. :D
I think that getting stared at was worth it, if most of the people who were staring at me had a smile on their faces. Hehe. I got a lot of joy out of wearing this outfit. I hope that it had the same effect on the people around me, too. ^_^ Anyway, that's the end of my t-shirt challenge! I hope you enjoyed it! <3
