Style Break: Storytelling Part II

Hi hi hi! ^_^
Oh, man. It's been awhile since I did one of these. >_< I did my first storytelling post back in May 2014. It was painful, but necessary. Hehe. I find it easy to talk about fashion, but it's not so easy to talk about my personal life. I try to keep drama and weirdness to a minimum. So, I don't talk about religion, politics or things that are going on in my life that aren't very pleasant. I started by blog to share my fashion sense and meet new people. I don't think I have to talk about those other things in order to accomplish that goal. That being said, I *am* human. Haha. There is more to me than still photos.

I want you guys to be able to come away from my blog knowing more about who I am and not just about my style philosophy. So, that's part of the reason why I created a personal video for you all back in August. :P I want everyone to know that I have moving parts. I laugh. I cry. I do stupid shit. Yadda.

It's always difficult to figure out how to begin these posts. I guess I'll start by telling you all where I disappeared to back in August 2014. I stopped blogging for about a month so that I could go to Chicago and get my teaching certification. ^_^ The first two photos up there are from the place where I did my four-week intensive training course. The third photo is some Dr. Who realia that I made for one of my classes. I ended up plastering those Daleks all over my apartment. Haha. Anyway, it was a really tough course, but I found that I loved teaching. I didn't know how I would like it, at first, but it came so naturally to me. I passed the course and now I am certified to teach adults whose first language isn't English!

I wanted to use my law degree and this teaching certification to create a niche position of sorts. I think there is a high demand for teachers with specialized backgrounds who are willing to impart their knowledge to foreign students.
So, my goal is to land a law teaching job at a foreign university.
I won't bore you with the rest of the details, but I will say that things are going well! The last photo shows a map of where graduates of the teaching course ended up. My name is somewhere in the ocean, for now. I'm excited to see where this path takes me. It's nice to have options! They were very limited before now.

When I finished the teaching course, my partner came down to help me pack my things. I was excited to finally have a chance to explore Chicago, even if it was just for the weekend. My partner and I were able to see and do quite a lot! We attended the Threadless Family Reunion, something I've always wanted to go to. It was definitely a right place at the right time kind of situation. I had a blast and some of the people who worked there recognized me from Instagram which was awesome and weird. Haha.

We went to Shedd Aquarium, which was really cool! Somehow, we were able to see a Second City show. Again, something that I've always wanted to do and we were not disappointed. If I ever get a chance to go back to Chicago, I'm going to put Second City at the top of my list. Also, as you can imagine, we ate a f*ck ton of food. Chicago is home to many restaurants run by Top Chef contestants and winners. My partner and I are so obsessed with that show, so we made a bee line for any Top Chef restaurant we could find. That last photo is from one such restaurant called, The Slurping Turtle.

And here we are. Home sweet home. Haha. ^_^ I returned to my little apartment in my hipster yarn bombed neighborhood. Heh. When I'm not busy volunteer teaching, I'm eating a lot; drinking a lot; playing video games whenever and wherever possible; and doting on my ungrateful cat, Bonaparte. <3

That first photo up there is my new rig! You may have noticed that I went on hiatus from my music blog. Updating it five days per week got to be really difficult, as much as I loved doing it. I knew that when I got back from Chicago, my time would be limited. So, I decided to put together quarterly mixes and upload them. I've been teaching myself how to spin records on and off for about two years.

I believe in vinyl even though it has largely fallen out of favor. Maybe I'm old school, but I think there's no substitute for the feel of vinyl. I think most DJs these days use beat matching software. I prefer to do all of that shit by hand. So, my mixes won't be without flaws, but the music will be good. Haha.

Those top two photos up there show my new kigurumi and my cat sleeping on me while I wear said kigurumi. *^_^* Many of you probably picked up on this already, but if you're a new reader of my blog, then you should know that I often wear really stupid sh*t around the house. When I'm not wearing boring yoga attire, I'm wearing a onesie or a hat (animals, wizards, cartoon characters, monsters, etc).

Last, but not least, it is time to show you some outfits that I considered unworthy of the old blog. Hehe.
I've had people ask me if I ever have an "off day." I think this is due to the fact that you're really seeing my "greatest hits" on my blog, as I like to call them. I have neither the time nor the money to be clever with my clothing all the time. So, yes, I most certainly do have off days and boring ones, too! :P

OK, that's all she wrote! I hope that this time next year I'll have less boring things to talk about. Haha. Thanks so much for reading and for taking the time to try to get to know me a little bit better. <3

I didn't find anything boring here and I did read everything - you know some people just write "cool post" and don't read a thing. I do read and I found amazing that you were in Chicago, that you have a teaching and law degree (the law one I knew about) and a sweet cat! And that you like vinyl and a music blog and that you will teach abroad! I think it will be awesome! Also, the outfits that you showed now are so nice! I loved particularly number one, with the floral top and the cardi, looks a bit retro and I love it! Ah, I guess at home we are all comfortable. I normally wear two rings, a watch (all nearly 99.9% of the time, even for sleeping), a T-shirt and shorts, and glasses that need to be replaced - they broke, I am postponing visiting the ophthalmologist for the new prescription, so I fixed them when green dental floss :) You see, wearing hats is chic! Loved this post, nice to know more about you!

Aww... hehe. Well, thanks! I guess I personally find it boring because it's my life. It's something I'm living. I'm in my own skin all day, every day. So, it's hard for me to be like, 'Omgosh, my life is so super cool and amazing, you guys.' Haha. ;P Maybe if I went out and did more things, then I'd have more anecdotal things to share. Money is really tight right now, though. So, we have to pick and choose the things we do outside the house, lately. I always say 'going for a walk is free.' Hehe. Plus, you never know what can happen when you do! :D

Oh man, I'm sorry about your glasses, dude! That's a totally nerdy thing to do with the floss, though. I approve! :P~

This was very interesting. It means so much more when you get to know about the person behind the blog.

I can't believe you didn't think those outfits were blog-worthy.

I imagine that "pizza delivery guy" gets some good laughs when he sees you strutting around in your teddy bear outfit! LOL

Hehe. I dunno. I'm unsatisfied with 90% of the things I do in life, so naturally I feel like most of what I wear is uninspiring. >_< It's a sickness, I know. Omgosh, you have no idea! For me, it's the mail man or the UPS guy, though. Haha. They're totally used to it by now, though. Incidentally, my partner is usually the first one down the stairs for the pizza dude. He always gets so excited. It's too cute. ^_^

I REALLY liked this post. I've also been trying to incorporate some posts that are less style based because I believe blogging on truly works if you share aspects of yourself besides the clothes so readers are familiar with you and not blending you in with other fashionistas. I really enjoyed learning more about you! Congrats on the teaching certificate! I also have a music blog, but literally haven't updated it in like, a year + lol. #oneday... XO

Rad! Yeah, they're hard to do, because you don't want to be more conceited that you already are by having a blog dedicated to yourself. Haha. You know what I mean? I think it's important to really try to level with people and just be real. If I have a boring life, then I have a boring life. Haha. I'm not going to make up stuff just to seem like I'm super amazing or whatever. So, yeah. I think if you just continue to be yourself and let people see those morsels of the "real" you, they'll appreciate it!

This time next year!? Nooooo, I need more posts like this one! You are kind of an enigma when it comes to personal stuff, which is totally fine, but I want to learn more about you and these kind of posts are my favorite from you! I love the outfit ones too ofcourse :D
I lounge at home with my pj's mostly, you're a higher level with those fancy clothes and hats :D
And I'd love to see you teach!
You consider those outfits unworthy? Are you kidding me? That green mermaid skirt is the bomb!

Hahaha. I'm sorry! I'm so sorrrry. T_T These posts are painful for me, though. I *never* know what to say. It takes me forever to start writing. I just don't...really...I dunno. I don't talk about myself that much, because I don't think there's much to say. I'm happy to answer questions when I'm with someone, but I can't just start talking about myself and go on and on and on. Haha. Some people are like that, but I'm the quiet one, usually. I love hearing about other people, though. Sometimes, I think I ask too many questions. >_<

Anyway, I'm super stoked that you got something good from this post. That's all I can really ask of anyone who reads it! <3

Yes, that mermaid skirt is so fucking cool. But, bro. It's a LOT of skirt. It comes up under my boobs practically and STILL hits the floor if I don't wear heels. I'm 5'9"! I feel like I've been conquered by this skirt. I haven't worn it since that photo was taken sometime last year. I just need to figure out what to do with all that fabric. It's hard to manipulate because it's clingy and heavy, so I can't exactly knot it or drape it. :/~ *sigh*

Actually, I went and got my TEFL certification a few years ago, and loved teaching English to others as well. I got it in Prague at the rather eponymously named TEFL Worldwide Prague. I ended up not staying and teaching English full time but used it to teach English in the summers and surprisingly, getting that opened up a lot of doors for me. I am truly amazed and impressed by your plans and hope for all the best for you on the job front! So exciting!!!!

Ha! Love the description of your blog as "the best hits." I actually really like all the outfits of these so-called "off" days though! This was a fun post; it is neat to get to see a bit of the woman behind the artist (you are an artist with your outfits!)

Hey! Omgosh. ESL buddies! Yay! <3 ^_^ <3 Hehe. That's so cool that you got your certification in Prague. It would have been rad to go abroad to get mine. You're right, though, about the opening doors bit. You just end up meeting so many different kinds of people with varied backgrounds. You never know when an opportunity will arise.

Oh, that's super kind of you, man. I do treat style as art whenever I can, but I still see myself as an apprentice, at best. Heh.

OMG it's so refreshing to hear about the person behind the blog. Teaching abroad sounds like the coolest! I can only imagine what's in store for you over the next year. So exciting! :)

ALSO: Cat. Threadless. (!!)

I haven't bought a shirt from Threadless in ages but that place was a go-to for a long time for me.

I LOVE this post! So great to get to know more about you. I've always been curious about what you do outside the blog, but understand that people like to keep that stuff private too. Sounds like you have a really interesting career path ahead of you!

Yay! As an avid reader/follower... (stalker?) of your blog, I enjoyed this post! Awesome that you completed a teaching course. That sounds really exciting and I hope it opens tons of new opportunities for you!

I also like the fact that you are so WAY geekier than I am! Hahaha. ;D

Also, can I just say how much I love the outfit with the long green skirt and OMG the ghostbusters (must be threadless, right?) tee!!!

Continue to keep it weird and nerdy, my friend!

Love the post and loved the outfits posted. Your style is super cool and it was great getting to know the person behind the blog. You are doing a great job, btw and always look so put together. Since my style inspirations are Lidia Deets and Tracy Turnblad, your blog is one I tend to stop by and peruse often, keep up the good work!

I`m so slow that I only saw your video today thanks to this post:) it`s so great to know more about yourself, as we all share our style photos and fashion thoughts on social platforms and trying to keep it within this topic it`s still so superb to see an environment of a blogger and other interests as well as fashion:) x
