Rise & Shine Bright

Hi, Winter! How are you? Goooood. Me, too! :3 This is a bright remix of more or less old items from my closet. In creating this look, I combined several colors, textures and patterns without being too crazy. :P I think seven colors ought to do it. Heh. I also avoided black and grey as much as possible. So, from the back you can see a pleasing medley of yellow, brown, orange and teal. However, from the front.....

Picture

You get an unexpected burst of red. :DDD
I removed my scarf, so you can see the amazing over-sized collar on my new red textured sweater, a gift from TrendyFine. It was $17.43 at the time that I picked it out, which is pretty cheap for such a nice sweater. It's long sleeved (too cold to show you, though!) with medium-thick material and the collar isn't sewed down at the neck, so you can fold it under to give the illusion that there is no collar. Better yet, you can layer a top with a really fun collar underneath and show that one off, instead. I like the versatility of the sweater and it comes in two other colors. ^_^

Picture

I wasn't really sure about the bright teal and red pairing, at first. I just really wanted an excuse to wear this cardigan, because it has been ages since I last wore it. Now, I know what you're thinking: A sweater and a cardigan? Really? How are you not freezing to death?! o_O O_o Welllllllll, I'm wearing five layers on top. :D First, the cardigan and red sweater. Then, underneath that is another red sweater. Haha. I'm serious. Underneath the second sweater is a long sleeved cotton top and under that top is my thermal.

Picture

Yep! :DDD Five layers on top and two on the bottom, but somehow I managed to avoid looking super frumptastic. It's outfits like these that tend to get people bent out of shape. They'll say, "Oh, I could never wear just a sweater and a cardigan in the winter. Isn't she cold?" However, it's all about what you *don't* see! I felt f*cking great! It's all about the layering. ^_^ Oh and the super sweet patterned backpack is something I picked up from my clothing swap group a while back. Unfortunately, I don't wear it too often, because it's a bit difficult to match with most of my outfits. It's a great bag, though!

Picture

I added the black and white patterned socks pretty much at the last minute. I liked the patterns in the backpack and then I remembered that I had socks with very similar patterns, so I thought, 'what the hell.' :D
I got the orange skinny jeans for super cheap during a sale at UrbanOG. I haven't worn them in a really, really long time, though. Click here to see how I used them to create a geeky, 80's inspired look. Once again, I keep forgetting about all the awesome sh*t that I have. The spending freeze I went on last year taught me so much. Even though I'm no longer on the freeze, I still find myself reaching for  lesser worn pieces and being very careful about adding any new items to my wardrobe. They say
repetition is key, right? If you do something long enough, it will eventually become second-nature. ^_^

Picture

Alright, alright. I'll quit my yappin'. I hope that you dig the outfit and that it didn't ruin your eyesight. ;D
If you didn't like this, then you'll be bummed next week, because I intend to clash patterns and pair vibrant colors. You have been warned! O_o o_O Haha.
I hope you all had a kick ass weekend!

Now that I'm in college, I find myself spending a lot less on clothes. It's teaching me to either make what I want (since it's MUCH cheaper that way) or do without. I do love the look. Lots of bright colors. I will definitely come back when I'm looking for tips to stay warm :)

Speaking of making your own shit, I've been catching up on Project Runway, lately. :D I'm starting with Season 5, I think that's where I left off (I got busy with work and just didn't have time to keep up with it). Anyway, I'm so amazed by the designers who can do a beautifully tailored jacket in 24 hours. Wtf! If I could make clothing like that, I wouldn't buy as much as I do! So, I think it's rad that you try to make the things that you want/can't afford.

It amazes me you are able to wear five layers and not look like the Michelin Man. I don't think I'd be able to do that unless I lost 20 lbs.

It looks great.

I used to freeze my ass off in the first few years of living in the Midwest. I had no idea wtf I was doing clothing wise. I didn't really know how to layer for cold weather, because I came from a place where "cold" was the mid-50s. Haha. So, it just took a lot of practice and I'm still learning! <3

Hell yeah repetition is everything! Fake it till you make it baby! :-D
Whoa, so many layers and you don't look like a cotton ball, even the opposite, looking like a supermodel! How the heck do you do that!
I've always been afraid of wearing a sweater AND a cardigan, because it might be too much, but now I'm positive I will try this, after seeing your amazing outfit ^_^ Loving this!

Hahaha. "Fake it till you make it." That is so true for me. So true. :D Supermodel? Nah, man. I'm too goofy for that. Haha. That's sweet of you to say, though! Thank you! <3

Love this spunky, quirky look! I love that you played with color but did so in a cozy, wintry way. The combination of textured knits is so great for creating a warm, bundled up vibe. And the ears on your hat are the sweetest. Awwww!

You look so warm and cozy, grrrl! And I'm totally in love with that red sweater. I mean, THAT COLLAR. <3

You're seriously inspiring. I need to take a shopping break, and I really need to work with the things I already have laying around. :)

I don't know what happened to me, because I used to HATE big collars on tops and dresses. When the peter pan collar thing started to creep its way back into fashion, I was so against it and I made a concerted effort to avoid buying tops with those collars. Eventually, I couldn't run away from the trend because every single friggin top I liked had that annoying collar. Haha. It spread like wildfire! So, I ended up with lots of peter pan collar tops in my closet and, after awhile, they just grew on me. From that, my obsession with weird/funky collars was born. :D

This colour combo makes me so happy! It's funny how people tend to revert to dark tones for Winter when it's dark and cold outside. I'll remember to get some colour on next Winter! Love the boots :)

Thanks! I felt like I did a fairly decent job of staving off dark colors, last winter. So, I wanted to see if I could make it a tradition and improve my ability to coordinate colors at the same time. It has been a fun challenge, so far! :D <3

If you did anything with less colors and patterns I would have to admit I was worried about you. ;)

It's good to see color in winter! I'm such a fan of black but, for me, It's easy to get sucked into the habit of wearing only dark to match my mood in winter. I'm glad you don't have that problem because you always look so cheery. :P

love,
a

Really? Haha. Being colorful is so out of my comfort zone. Monochrome and earth tones are my strengths. I feel like I can do those well without thinking too hard, but as soon as I start to put bright colors next to each other, I get nervous. A) People are going to notice me even more and as irrational as it may be, I am highly bothered by this and B) I don't want to look like a clown. Haha. So...I have to think and think and think, again. >_< Thank you for liking this, though! I think I did OK, this time. :P
