Guys. I've been saying this vintage blazer is plaid, when it's actually tartan! Ack! Apparently, I don't know anything about prints. >_< I always get plaid, gingham and tartan mixed up. I think this is my fourth time wearing it on the blog and no one has corrected me on this, so the confusion is probably widespread, which makes me feel a little better, but still. Hehe. Anyway, let it be known that I am aware of this grave (is it?) error and from this day forward, I shall use the correct terminology. o_O O_o

Picture

Wow, my blazer is looking crazy bright here. Sorry. Sometimes my camera can't handle patterned fabric and it gets distorted. The brighter the light outside, the worse the phenomenon. I bet I could fix that somehow, but I've been lazy about mastering my camera settings. Also, while we're on the subject of me basically not knowing anything..heh. Is tartan and plaid something you're never supposed to wear together? Oh, please say this is a fashion sin. Please, please! :D The thought of people following rules for fashion irks me, so I would be delighted to know that I've broken at least one rule with this outfit.

Picture

The thing is, this juxtaposition of colors and patterns looks so good to me. Really good. I love it, actually. :D Also, the fedora, over-sized blazer, the orange plaid skirt and brown tassel loafers give the outfit a Teddy Girl vibe. There's a confidence and masculine edge tempered by the soft lace and  billowy skirt. I've had the lace top forever, too. I can't remember where I thrifted it, but it's a real gem.

The knee high socks and structured brown satchel give the outfit a bit of a vintage schoolgirl vibe, which I guess I'm OK with? Hehe. The socks are from my sponsor, Sock It To Me! You can't really see the print too well here, but there are some close up photos, below. They're so funny and cute. ^_^

Look at the kitties and their pudgy little butts and big umbrellas! Haha. So damn cute. I laughed out loud when I first saw these. Even now, I look at this photo and smile. F*cking adorable, man.
<3 I just had to include them in the outfit. They add a dose of quirkiness and confusion that I can't live without.

So, in my last post, I was an oddly dressed crazy person. In this post, I'm a nicely dressed, slightly odd person. What will I be next week? Hmmm. Hehe. *shrug* I guess we'll see! Have a great weekend! ;D

Can I give you a virtual standing ovation? Because until I started blogging, I had no idea that tartan and plaid were different (and yes I confused gingham in there also). And I love print mixing too. It's my fave. Love the mix of plaids/tartans here. Great hat too! My husband's grandmother just gave me over half dozen of her vintage fedoras and straw hats and I have been so stoked to wear them! I just have to fit it over all my curly hair. :-/

Hehehe. There are so many fashion related things that I don't know. I don't really keep up with designers or trends. I try, but it's not important enough to me that I'd subscribe to a fashion magazine or something like that. So, I'm not surprised that I didn't know the pattern difference. I honestly don't think it's terribly important. ;) As long as I'm able to figure out how to wear the prints, it doesn't really matter that I mix up their names. I don't think anyone should feel bad about that, either! That stuff is for fashion gurus to worry about. :P

A very definite Teddy Girl vibe... Technically, all tartan is a plaid, I think, but not all plaids are tartans (like rectangles and squares or apples and fruit!) What ever it is called through, it is cute on you.

*shrug* Hahaha. I dunno, man. I've gotten mixed reactions in the comments. Some people say I'm right; some say they have no idea; some say it's the British way to say 'plaid.' I have no idea! :P

My camera also tends to over-saturate certain articles of clothing. I haven't figured out what settings to change yet, but you can probably lower the saturation just a tiny bit in whatever photo-editing program you use--that's what I've been doing while I try to figure out the complicated camera stuff.

Gaaah! Yeah, why does that happen???? It doesn't help that I manually reset my camera settings days prior because it was doing something weird while I was taking product photos for my shops. So, everything was off to begin with. >_<

Yes it's tartan :) Plaid is misused as a pattern, but it actually comes from the Gaelic word for 'Blanket' so it's not actually a pattern at all, but a object!! I learned all about it when I moved to Scotland as I used to say plaid and was quickly corrected. You look amazing, love all the prints together :))) xx

Lol!! I think everyone calls this print plaids. I only call the red version tartan. Please don't ask me why. Haha!! You haven't broke no fashion rules here, Anna. I find it rather creative. I don't follow fashion rules -useless if you ask me.

I'll be honest- I always thought that tartan was the British word for plaid :) Well, whatever it is I love your plaid and tartan mixing- you're a print mixing genius! Your fun socks are making my shoes jealous!

I didn´t know either that tartan and plaid were different things, hehehe. Anyway I love how you mix both patterns in the same outfit. There are no rules in fashion :-) Those socks are so cute!! :-)

Yes! I like to think that, anyway (re: that there are no rules). :D It's largely subjective, because we're dealing with aesthetics. Though, I do believe that there are some things that are objectively beautiful and pleasing to the eye. There are things that work and things that really just don't. The most difficult thing about fashion, IMO, is being able to recognize that distinction (and do so with the confidence of knowing that you know haha). It's that epistemological quandary that plagues me every time I get dressed. <3

AHahah, you're not alone my dear! :D I did SPECIAL research on this subject, cause I didn't understand the difference between plaid and tartan, and after browsing through a few pages on google, and reading through tons of forums, I still don't know what's the fucking difference...I read through some Scottish forums that plaid is actually the cloth and tartan is the pattern...Still kind of confusing though :D
I love this, especially the socks, really adorable, big fat cats always make my heart melt! :D And I'm dying for this pattern mix!!!

I totally understand! I have a similar issue with identifying plaids. I don't know if someone else shared this with you, but Buzzfeed recently did an amazing style chart list that has helped me differentiate (#5 has plaids). http://www.buzzfeed.com/juliegerstein/girl-you-look-good#.ysXBqLL8P

Regardless, it's a great mixing of plaid adjacent prints!!!
