So glad to have an excuse to break out my thrifted galaxy leggings. I managed to wear them quite a few times last year and I'm hoping this year will be no exception. For this style, I'm trying something that I have never done before: double galaxy print. I've seen it done lots of times, so this isn't super novel or anything. However, since it has been done before by other bloggers, I thought I would mix it up by adding layers and asymmetry. In so doing, I can essentially choose which parts of the galaxy to reveal.
You would think that it would be difficult to walk in snow while wearing 5 inch platform boots, but I had an easy time of it. For whatever reason, I find chunky platforms more comfortable (and more stable) than high heels. I could wear these boots all day and all night (and I've even danced the night away in them! :P). They have grooved soles that provide traction, so they allowed me to strut my stuff in fairly deep snow. I felt like some wicked tall snow queen towering over everyone and stomping around. :D
Here you can see a little bit of the layering I did. It's incredibly simple, but thanks to the asymmetrical cut of the cardigan (and the ModCloth high low top I'm wearing underneath), I was able to make the outfit look more complicated and dramatic. All I had to do was drape the cardigan over my shoulder.
There's snow falling so it may be hard to see what's going on, but if you click here you can see better views of the cardigan as well as the over the shoulder trick I was talking about. In the second photo, I just lifted up the back portion of my high low top so can have a better understanding of what's going on. To the unsuspecting, it may look like that back portion is attached to my cardigan, but it isn't. ;D
The star of the show (pun very much intended hehe) is my galaxy sweatshirt ($36) from Choies. I had it in my wish list since October of last year. I struggled with the versatility factor. I just wasn't sure if I would get very much wear out of it because the print is so incredibly vibrant. However, now that I have it, I do believe I was quite the idiot. Haha. This sweatshirt is fantastic and I'm sure I can wear it in some pretty interesting ways. I started with a black canvas to show off the bright colors in the outfit, but I will see what I can do about pairing other colors with the sweatshirt. It will be a bit of a challenge, but I look forward to it. Hehe. The material is a bit thin, so I had to wear thermals underneath. Also, it is a one-size item and I find that it fits much like a medium. It's comfortably loose without being over-sized. The colors are so rich in person. The entire sweatshirt really pops. I'm glad I finally decided to get it!
I guess this outfit is pretty crazy, but I mean I'm all about the double take. If people don't look at you at least twice when you walk by, then you're doing it wrong. Haha. People are going to stare, so you might as well give them something to stare at, yeah? Oh and believe me, I got my fair share of gawkers. ;D
