ModCloth featured me on their blog, yesterday! I'm so excited and humbled by all of this! The responses I have received have been overwhelmingly positive and supportive, for the most part. Hahaha. "Haters gonna hate." I guess. *^_^* I don't expect everyone to like how I put certain pieces together. It's just the more personal comments about my gender and my supposed gender roles that irk me. That kind of stuff is just completely outside the purview of ModCloth's post about me. *shrug*

I'm comfortable in my androgyny and I support men and women who go beyond typical gender stereotypes to create amazing outfits. I truly believe fashion is gender neutral. Anyway, I think most people tend to look at an outfit and wonder if it would look good on them or whether they would actually wear it, and if the answer is 'No' then they just say they hate it.

I try to be more objective than that and as a result, I can see the beauty in all kinds of outfits, even if they're not my style per se. I think that kind of rational, truth-based outlook is critical in fashion. It's not about what you personally like or what looks good on you, it's about the complex configuration of colors and patterns and whether these elements are aesthetically pleasing. This is what makes fashion so much like art to me. It takes a certain kind of person to "get it," you know? So the people that are worried about my gender really are not even on the same intellectual plane as those of us who understand what is really at play. ;)

Fair enough. Your response makes me want to go back to my super short hair - like, screw you {world} and your gender stereotypes (particularly the one where US women having long big hair or blonde hair). But I also have a constant desire to change my appearance (no ruts for me!).

I hear you - I love clothing as an ability to be creative and express myself, I hate how it allows everyone else to make judgments about me. But at the same time, I constantly need to remind myself that just because an outfit isn't something I would wear doesn't mean it doesn't have value in its own right. *sigh* Oh, fashion, such a tricky beast. : D

Oh my gosh, Nina! That is the best compliment ever! I loved Punky Brewster! I'm probably totally dating myself by admitting that. Haha. I always wanted her freckles. My mom has freckles. Why didn't they rub off on me! Feh! :[~ I had Punky Brewster sneakers when I was a kid. They had plastic shaped hearts on the sides with her face inside each one. :DDD <3

I just can't over that outfit with the wolf sweater and orange skirt. I love it. You always know how to use color and layering so well. I'm not so great at layering but I guess when you grow up in 90% humidity and hot weather, it's not really conducive. You've actually inspired me to buy a bow tie!
