Oh, hey bros! Grab a latte and make yourselves comfortable. ^_^ I've been asked by ModCloth to share my thoughts about how I would go about styling their "Working Lunch Pants" (which you can see below). I accepted the challenge and I opted for a quirky mix of bold colors and prints.
When I first looked at the pants, I was like..aww, man. Plain black pants? That's like the worst. Haha. Seriously. It really doesn't get any more boring than that. You really need to work to jazz up those babies, especially if you're going to wear them in a workplace setting. It seems that when it gets colder, people tend to opt for blacks and greys. They just impute the doldrums of the season to their wardrobe. I think this is understandable, since Winter tends to be characterized by grey skies and slush. >_<
The best way to combat that mindset is to wear bright colors! I find that when I wear bright hues in the winter, my mood is cheerier. It's like smiling when you're sad. Do it enough and you'll be happier! ^_^
OK, so basically, I included the blacks and greys that people seem to unconsciously lust after in the colder months, but I added a healthy dose of bright, colorful pieces to breathe life into the overall outfit.
As you probably know by now, I'm fond of layering and creating two looks in one. So, it should come as no surprise that I did that here. I started out with a complete look based on outerwear which consists of a double breasted grey coat and colorful scarf. I think those two items in combination with the blue hand bag and fuchsia heels add just the right amount of color contrast and aesthetic interest.
Then, I pictured what would happen when this person arrives at her advertising agency (I like for my outfits to tell a story..don't judge me! Haha). Well, she would take off her coat and hang up her scarf, right? In so doing, she would reveal a completely new outfit. I really like the striped top with its splashes of mint. I would suggest that she tuck the lower part of the top into her pants and wear the super cute cardigan over it. That way, if she chose to unbutton the cardigan, you'd get an eyeful of stripes, but it wouldn't be overpowering. Each piece reveals a mix in prints that is pleasing to the eye.
Of course, you know how people tend to turn up the heat in an office so it's unbearably hot during the winter? I've been there. It sucks. Haha. So, in the event that she has to take off the cardigan and hang it over the back of her chair or whatever, she'll reveal those minty cuffs on the blouse. Those colors plus the fuchsia heels is perfection, IMO. The simple, but cute gold pendant is just a cherry on top. :D
That's how I'd style the "Working Lunch Pants". What do you think? Did I totally frack this up? Haha.
