Simplicity Is Bliss (Barely There Challenge!) - Part 1/9

One of the advantages (if I can call it that? heh) of doing a minimalist style challenge this month is that my posts will be short. Haha. The less I wear, the less stuff there is to talk about. So, if you're the kind of person who likes to scan things quickly to get info, you'll likely be overjoyed about this. Hehe.

For my first outfit of the challenge, I decided I wanted to try to wear only a shirt and jeans. The thought of wearing just a shirt and jeans has an utterly soporific effect on me. >_< For that reason, this outfit isn't really one that I would normally share with you guys. For me, this is as boring as it gets.

In order to make the outfit a little more interesting (and to stave off the instant narcoleptic effects it may have on people who see it haha), I started with a bright colored pair of jeans and added a shirt with a subtle, but refined pattern scheme. So far, so good? I have no f*cking idea what I'm doing. Haha. Then I added my favorite stereo pendant and finished with a convertible bright mustard backpack.

I know the stereo pendant is practically blending in with my shirt. I did this on purpose, so it would be like a little Easter egg (I'm using the gamer sense of the word!) for people who happened to be near enough to notice it. The backpack is really great for this outfit for a couple of reasons. First, I just love how mustard and teal look together. Second, the long strap on the bag is one of my favorite aspects of its design and I really enjoy seeing its patterns and colors clash with my striped top. I have to take complexity wherever I can get it right now, because this challenge is making me die inside. Haha!

I have so much respect for people who can take just a couple clothing items and make them look amazing together. It really is a skill to elevate a minimalist style and make it aesthetically interesting.

I hope I will come away from this with a better appreciation of minimalist style and more of an incentive to pay homage to the "less is more" adage when I'm thinking about what to wear on a daily basis.

You did a brilliant job though and I love the fact that you are still managing to sneak in a bit of layering with your accessories.

Aw, I love this look! Yes it is different from your usual looks, but it's great to remind us that you sometimes take a break from your amazing layered looks. Haha - I love that you have the shirt buttoned up all the way to the neck! SO CONSERVATIVE! :D

Yeah, the lack of response says it all really. Haha. Super boring! >_< Thank you, though! I'm going to have to figure out how to step it up. I realize that layering is a crutch for me. So, I'm really flying blind as far as how to make less look like more. Usually, when I do a very minimalist look, I consider it too boring to post about. So, I'm finding this very challenging and I have a real incentive to try to make these looks "blog worthy." I'll keep at it! Failure is not an option! :DDD

Oh and yeah, I have this fixation with buttoning things all the way to the top. Haha. I can't explain it, but I do it a lot. :P

Thanks! <3 Despite my need to be self-deprecating every chance I can get hehe, I do really like this outfit. I wore it out for a lunch date and actually these photos were taken right outside of the place where we ate (just in the parking lot). :P Despite the limited number of pieces, I found that I was still somehow the best dressed person at the restaurant. Haha. I think attention to detail is key <3

Aww, thanks! *^_^* I just try to think about areas where I'm weak or certain things I've been reluctant to do style wise and then I just make challenges for myself. Knowing that I will have to show my work and be graded, so to speak, gives me an incentive to put my best foot forward and learn/grow as much as I can. :P

I've always been one to do things the hard way. This pretty much describes my whole life. Haha. I've gained so much from not being afraid to put myself out there and see what I'm made of. So, it only seemed natural to hold myself to the same standards with my fashion sense. <3

Thank you, Jackie! Truly! <3 I know I have a problem. The lens through which I view the world is so multi-faceted, colorful, quirky, bizarre. I love coloring outside the lines and wearing just a shirt and jeans is very much like coloring inside the lines for me, if that makes any sense?

I'm trying to do what I can to launch myself out of the confines of that which I consider to be utterly pedestrian. All the while I realize that someone else could view my outfit not as boring, but as inspirational and unique. I'm always surprised when that happens (i.e. when someone's positive feelings about my outfit clash with my own hyper critical feelings about it), to the point where I almost feel as if the person is lying to me or being obsequious. I have to remember that everyone's "lens" is different. I have to say, I'm quite glad about that. I can only imagine what my blog comments would look like if they all came from people who think just like me. :D
