Ahoy! :D I've been obsessed with doing a monochrome look using shades of red for awhile, now. I drew a lot of inspiration from this Paris Fashion Week style photo. It's possible that the colors were altered using Photoshop, but I have to say that the shades of red in her outfit are perfect.
I don't remember how long ago it was that I saw it, but the photo left an indelible impression on me. I found proof that you can wear a predominately red outfit and not look like a freak. Haha. So, here is my take on that style. ^_^

I played around with light and dark reds with the bright red coat, deep plum maxi skirt and dark brick red scarf. I was afraid that, with the coat closed, people might think that I tried to do a matchy-matchy outfit and failed to get all of the colors to align. In actuality, I set out to create a subtle variation in color.

Picture

When the coat is opened, I think it becomes more obvious that I meant to include different shades of red. To make the outfit more interesting in comparison to some of the other predominately red outfits that I've seen, I mixed things up by adding deep orange and light purple. :D I'm actually wearing a dark burgundy vintage dress underneath all of this. I really loved the lace collar and I thought it looked so nice with the orange crop sweater. Plus, the dress added a welcome, additional layer of warmth. :P

Here you can see the mix of colors, patterns and textures with the collar, sweater and floral necklace. I'm sad to say that an unacceptable amount of time had passed since I last wore that purple necklace. It's one of my favorite accessories, but I guess I'm (unduly?) picky about how I use it. I think the colors in the outfit compliment the necklace and, in turn, the necklace adds character to the overall look.

Picture

At this point, I could have just called it a day. However, it was 30+ degrees and I was feeling pretty good about that. :D I got to wear my fedora, again, and I've really missed wearing it. Also, I didn't have to wear gloves. Yippee! So, I decided to take off my coat and necklace and show you some more details.

Picture
Picture

I wanted to make sure I showed you guys what the outfit looked from the back. You can see the delicate repeating patterns on the crop sweater (which I love!) and you'll notice that the lace collar of the vintage dress is non-existent. This is because it is sewn to the front of the dress only. You see more of the wooden heels of my knee high black boots, too. You don't notice the contrasting heel unless you look at the boots from the side or from the back. As you know, I like these kinds of variations in my outfits.

Picture

I think I did OK with this first attempt at a predominately red outfit. I dunno. Thoughts? Was the necklace a bit much? Hehe. Thanks for reading! ^_^ I hope you have great weekend. <3

LOVE this look. It is so funny since I was also thinking of putting together some monochromatic looks after seeing shots from NYFW.

You did a great job.

Thanks, dude! Monochromatic outfits can be suuuuuper hard. It's so difficult to get everything *just* right. I get so much inspiration from people who seem to be able to pull off those looks effortlessly. I agonized over this one quite a bit! <3

Dear Anna, definitely not too much with the necklace, cause I was going to say (before you asked the question "was it too much?") that I looooved it and oh my word, so many things you have that I can see myself wearing as well - I just don't want to copy all the time! I loved the necklace, no joke, and the whole outfit - good that the weather was better and you didn't have to wear gloves and could even take the coat a bit :) red is my favorite color, so I simply loved the outfit - the coat is amazing and I can see the burgundy dress though its collar! Also love boots like those - with wooden heels. Really, one of my favorite outfits and you look gorgeous!!!!

Oh, rad! That makes me really happy. :DDD I'm kicking myself for not wearing the necklace often enough. I'm glad I could give it a chance to shine here! I didn't realize red was your favorite color. Hehe. Of course, you are biased, then. ;P <3

Great recreation - I can't tell if the colors were altered in photoshop (its pretty amazing how different you can make things look). Love the monochromatic look on you!

Hey, there! Thanks! ^_^ To me, a re-creation is something that is very similar to the original product. I wouldn't call this outfit a re-creation, but rather an inspiration outfit. I'm actually working on a blog post on this very subject which will get published next week. It's a distinction that has been on my mind for awhile!

Your rocked those shades of red. I love that you actually wore a dress underneath to get the burgundy collar, ingenious!

DAMN did you kill it! The location's simplicity really sets off the outfit, and especially the motion in the skirt.

I too experience the worry that people will think I tried to match and failed instead of understanding that I was going for different shades! So I feel ya, but I think you did a great job here. The disparity seems very intentional. And I love you forever for knowing what a fedora *actually* is, instead of confusing it with a trilby the way it seems the entire internet does.

This look is so STUNNING! I love that it is so different from your usual style as well!

The skirt is simply gorgeous! :D And I like the necklace - just a bit of something different.

Seriously, you never cease to amaze me with your versatility and ingenuity!

I'm liking this monochrome look. I'd like to try it myself but the only day it's acceptable to dress all in green is St. Patrick's day... Only a couple of weeks away! LOL. ;)

Not only did you do okay, you did great! I loved the inspiration photo too, your interpertation of it is perfect and you added a lot of little details that are you! The necklace is something I'd have dificulties styling, so I know where you're coming from :-D I love it paired with this outfit. The dark burgundy collar adds that pop that makes everything finished from top to bottom! And the wooden bottom of the booties is rad and just what I like about your style, subtle little creative things!
