Of Plaid & Asymmetry (Barely There Challenge!) - Part 7/9

Today's minimalist style is colorful with an edge. I simply wore a light wash denim zipper vest over a high waisted plaid maxi skirt. To avoid wearing a hat (and to avoid pulling my hair back with a boring clip), I did a hair style that consists of uneven, overlapping parts with a series of twisted pieces mixed in. It has a patchwork look to it from all angles, but the twist braids can only be seen from the back.

It was love at first sight with this vest. I've always wanted a denim zipper vest and I was lucky enough to receive it from my clothing swap group. ^_^ I like that there are several different ways to wear it and you can see two very easy options in these first two photos. I think the light wash denim paired nicely with the red plaid maxi skirt. The sleeveless lace top underneath was necessary for modesty. :P

I should probably mention where I was going the day these photos were taken. Hehe. My partner and I live just a few blocks from a watering hole. It was such a nice day that we decided to walk there and have drinks on their outdoor patio. I had a very tasty mint julep. ^_^ The bright color and commanding patterns combined with the fact that the skirt is comfy and really easy to walk in made it a good choice.

I finished the outfit with my bright yellow Cambridge satchel, just to give it an extra punch of color. It's a wonderful bag and it has held up so well despite my constant abuse. Haha. I'm obsessed with these bags. I still can't believe it was only $64. I wish I had gotten other colors before the prices went back up!

Yay for maxiskirts! There is really nothing better than a nice, long, flowy, printed maxiskirt to make an outfit amazing. Your Barely There challenge is my favorite yet, because I feel like you are focusing on the standout pieces more and allowing them to take center stage instead of giving everything center stage by layering. XD

I can't believe you only have one of that purse either! The shape is perfectly punchy and the color is such a statement. Yellow is quickly becoming my favorite way to make an outfit amazing. So bravo. <3

Thanks! Right on. Temperature and fabric. It was 70 degrees and the skirt is completely unlined. :D I keep trying to tell people that Summer in the Midwest is different from say, the South. It's an uphill battle. Haha. But yeah, you can assume I knew what I was doing when I chose this particular piece. :P

I love denim vests!! I literally wear mine all of the time in the summer and well, fall and spring, too. It's just such a cute way to spice up an outfit!

Your outfits are always flawless! I just recently started following you but you always look amazing, like here you are rocking the grunge look. Also I keep meaning to try out one of those swap groups because I feel like so many bloggers have such luck with it. Is it hard to coordinate?
