Behold! Feast your eyes upon 100% of this dress. Haha. I didn't cover it up! I can't believe it. Good on me. :D I was lucky enough to thrift this beauty. It is obvious from the sewing work underneath the garment that it is handmade. It has no brand or care tags and it's a little faded from wash wear, but the colors still look magnificent to me. I got so many compliments and stares. I guess I shouldn't be surprised. This is one of the most colorful dresses I own other than the dress I thrifted from Good Style Shop. If you want to see that dress, just click here. It was the vintage color scheme in this particular dress that initially caught my eye. I'm also a fan of high necklines and I loved that it came with pockets.
The high scooped collar demands a necklace. I debated which one to wear and this trapeze necklace seemed the most reasonable choice. It is one of my favorite and most expensive necklaces. It is feather light, making the scene it depicts quite apropos. A whimsical display for an equally whimsical dress. I don't wear the necklace often, as I save it for special outfits. I think this one fits the bill. :D
I must say I liked the idea of wearing polka dots. I didn't want to be fussy with patterns, because the dress is the star of the show, but I felt like plain tights would be a boring cop-out. The dark sheer fabric of the tights allowed the dress to remain on center stage, while the black dots added aesthetic interest without drawing too much attention and/or clashing with the other patterns. I think it worked out well!
Also, I felt that the neutral handbag was paramount. A black bag would have been super boring and a more colorful one would have been a distraction. So, I'm really glad I bought this bag. I don't wear it often, but when I do it's usually because the outfit just wouldn't be right without it. It's the perfect color!
I guess I should also mention that these photos were taken after my partner and I went out for Sunday brunch. We had crepes and coffee at one of my favorite places downtown. After that, we did a little shopping and then had a quiet evening at home with a bottle of wine and dinner on the deck. :P
