So, I took at stab at doing a mostly grey outfit. I used different shades of the color to avoid looking one dimensional. Then, I threw in some varying textures and rounded everything off with dark hues.
For most people, black and grey seem to be the colors of choice for the winter season. I have been trying to avoid dark colors as much as possible, as a personal challenge. However, just this once, I felt like embracing these dreaded hues. I wondered if I could put them together in an aesthetically interesting way. I don't think that I look depressed or conquered by winter. Rather, I think I managed to take these somber colors and create a confident and empowered outfit that is still cute and fun. ^_^
I gotta say, this is one of the most comfortable outfits I have worn, so far. Over the knee socks is where it's at, ya'll. Hehe. I wore a thermal top and bottom as my base layer which kept me nice and toasty. ^_^ I added the cat hat and grey pom pom sweater to bring some levity to the outfit. I didn't want to look too serious, though I'm afraid that such a look is more often than not my default disposition. Heh. :F
I'm happy that I found a use for these dark grey tights. Like the pom pom sweater, I just didn't know how to effectively wear them. I think the tights work well here. As for the sweater, I think it's so cute. I just have a hard time styling it. I think I just need the right pieces to go with it. For example, I bet some high waisted red plaid pants would look killer. Of course, it's possible that I have lots in my closet right now that would look great with it, too. I just need to play around with the stuff I have until something sticks.
Sometimes, I get so obsessed with optimal combinations that I end up overlooking or dismissing awesome stuff. I'll go a whole year without wearing something, because I'm unsatisfied with all of the ways that I have thought about styling it. I admit that I have an obsessive and controlling personality, especially when it comes to what I wear. Maybe if I can learn to just let go once in a while, I will be pleasantly surprised by what I come up with. "Over thinking it" should be my middle name. Haha.
Anyway, I don't think I suffered from that malady, this time. This outfit is actually quite simple. I mindfully chose each garment to make the end result interesting without over complicating things. Oh and I should mention that I was wearing shorts! :P Haha. The sweater is long, but it is by no means a sweater dress. I didn't want to wear a skirt. So, I opted for shorts to give the socks and tights center stage. ^_^
