Granny's Got A Gun (Barely There Challenge!) - Part 9/9

Picture

I decided to end my Minimalist Style Challenge with a bang. So, buckle up! First off, let's get something straight. This ain't your grandma's cardigan. It's mine, now. I'm going to do all kinds of awesome and weird sh*t with it and granny's just going to have to deal! >=| If she didn't want me to ruin it, she should have held on to it. Haha. I guess she can have it back, but she'll have to pry it from my cold dead hands. Hence the title of this post. ;D This cardigan is too good to give up without a fight.

Picture

Feast your eyes on these retro patterns! So 80s! <3 I feel like I've got a pretty good eye for vintage and a little research confirmed what I already knew which is that this cardigan is retro as f*ck. I love the confidence of knowing that the probability of seeing someone wearing the exact same cardigan is slim to none. The best way to stand out is to be different. You can't get this sh*t at The Gap. I got it from Barter's Closet (i.e. a vintage lover's paradise).
Sorry, but I'm so damn excited about this cardigan. Haha. My use of expletives tends to increase with my level of happiness and I'm super stoked. ^_^

Picture

You guys know I scared a bunch of people the day I wore this, right? Yeah, of course you do. Haha. People in the Midwest scare so easily. It's like they have super sensitive sensibilities. I dunno. I do live in kind of a small city, so there isn't much in the way of diversity. Anyway, my partner and I went to a hoity toity Asian dumplings place after these photos were taken and well, you should have seen the saucer eyes I got when I showed up. A lot of people just didn't know what to do with me. Heh.

*Sigh* You know what, though? I can only be myself. I won't change to make other people feel more comfortable.
I'd rather be the one doing the terrorizing than be the apprehensive victim. So be scared if you want, bro. Heh. I've gotten to this point where I really just don't give any f*cks about it, anymore.

Picture

I yearn for a big city! I am so eager to move, it's not even funny. >_< It's at the very top of my list.  Anyway, as you can see, I took at stab at doing a cliche sitting pose. This is the first (and probably only) time I will ever do one of these poses. I really just wanted to try it out, but you know, every time I see a blogger sit like this, I imagine that she's pooping. Haha. This is how people in many countries sit when they poop. *shrug* And I also wonder, why are you even sitting like that? Who does that? Haha. Well, now you have an obligatory poop stance. No need to say it. I know and you're quite welcome.

Picture

Alright, let's talk about this amazing ModCloth dress. It's damn magnificent. The pale coral is exactly the color I was hoping for when I got it (from my clothing swap group). It was in used condition when I received it (i.e. a few minor aesthetic defects here and there), but I didn't care about that. I loved the unique collar and the box pleats. The only thing I'm not too keen about is the fact that the fabric is a bit on the thin side. It's very form fitting at the bodice and if you sweat anywhere at all, it will show plain as day. So, as you can imagine, I did my best to keep my cool. :D Luckily, it wasn't a very hot day.

Picture

Finally, this bun mohawk. WTF? Yeah, I know. The thing is, I figured it would at the very least keep potential octogenarian thieves at bay. The aura of awesomeness surrounding my cardigan is strong. Only a fool would ignore it. All those would-be pilferers need is the element of surprise, I'm pretty sure that if some old dude hit me in the back of the head, I'd go down like a sack of potatoes. Hahaha.

I'm ridiculous. One too many coffees today, sorry. I can't stop laughing.
Anyway, click here to see the last time I styled my hair like this. It's very likely that I will do this style again, because (a) it's pretty f*cking cool, I mean, let's be real and (b) it (literally) stands up well to Summer heat and humidity.

Picture

Rawr! You better like my weird outfit and I command you to have a kick ass weekend! >=[ ~ ~ ~

First- why are people scared? This look of yours is spectacular! I would stare, but with amazement!
Second- yup, small cities suck. I was born in a very narrow minded little town, it ruined my life! :D
Third- we in Bulgaria have hole-like toilets, so yes, this is accurate, we poop that way :D Not every time though.. sometimes we have normal toilets, yay! :D I do like the shot though!
Fourth- GRANNY CARDI KICKS ASS!
Fifth- the hair, oh the hair is best thing I've seen this week!!!!! Applause!!!!

1. Because they're afraid of what they don't understand. I mean, I guess in their defense, you don't really see people walking around with this kind of hair style everyday. Haha. I don't mind the stares of amazement. I expect those. It's more the dirty looks and when someone will shake her head at me in disapproval. That's when I'm like..OK, you know what? F*ck off, because I have just as much right to be here as you do and I don't see the need for you to penalize me just because you don't have an imagination. My skin color doesn't help me, either.

2. I can't wait to leave. Right now I'm working on moving to Toronto. That place made such a positive impression when I visited a few years ago. I would give anything to put down roots there. It's large, colorful, multicultural and the crack smoking mayor is just a cherry on top, really.

3. Haha. Yes! See! I just don't think people have much reason to sit like that unless (a) they're pooping or (b) they're looking at something or petting a cute furry animal on a leash on the sidewalk. Maybe the pose became popular from a fashion magazine or something. I have no idea.

4. Yessssss. The colors are so fantastic. You will see it again, very likely in the Fall and definitely in Winter. <3

5. Aww, thank you! *takes a bow*

You look amazing. If you're looking for a city, try Atlanta! You'd be amazed at the variety of style you'll get here. And you always have Little 5 Points. It is hands down a vintage lovers paradise.

The title of this post made me laugh (: and it is very appropriate! I've always wanted a slouchy cardigan like this in a similar print. I got one for Christmas 2 years ago, but sadly it shrunk after the first wash. I love how you styled yours, though (: that dress is the bomb!

sc0re! I suck at being funny. Usually, when people laugh at something I say or do, it's the product of me just not even trying. Haha. I'm just a weird person, really. ^_^ Crap! I should be careful how I wash this, then. I kind of like that it's super baggy and I'd hate to lose that. <3

This cardigan and this post are the reasons you are my favorite vintage blogger! I have much jealousy towards you on this cardigan. Tried to find one similar myself and have so far come up empty handed. *sad face* Alas, my search shall continue!

Wha? Really? Aww, man. That means a lot. Thank you! *^_^* <3

Dude, it was a product of being in the right place at the right time. In fact, a lot of the vintage stuff that I treasure were obtained by similar means. You never know what will be available on what day. That's the exciting thing about it, but also the most frustrating. So, I totally understand your pain! <3

Even living in a "big city" though, you'd be surprised at how hard people try to blend in. Rather than gawked at, I feel like people who try to be different are purposefully ignored. It's all a part of that "seen it all, done it all" air of superiority that New Yorkers try so hard to maintain....

Either way, your style is completely rad! Keep doin' whatever your doin'. And please look me up if you ever do make it over to NYC :)

Hi, Anna, and once more sorry I didn't come to your blog earlier - but now with facebook it's easier to see your outfits, though I like to read your amazing blog - the thing is that I need around 10 days to feel at home, and then I have inspiration to comment again :) Well, I read the first comment and I agree - I don't know how someone could be scared of a beautiful girl like you, with an amazing cardi and beautiful dress, plus great boots. The hair? So nice! I must confess I always wanted to do it, but my hair would look like flat buns, so I never did. I tried once. I hope you have a great weekend too!

Why are people scared? What's wrong with them? This cardigan is amazing! In Greece it's so hot that I can only stand wearing cut-offs and crop tops, but I feel pretty jealous of this outfit!

I know the feeling of wearing clothes that noone else has, it's awesome!

Last but not least, I LOVE your hair. Lately, I'm all into weird hairstyles. From the "Bjork" look, to braids to whatever, I simply love everything! And most of all, it's super practical for summer heat.

Hope you are well and happy!

Because I live in Maine, if I go anywhere but downtown Bangor or the Portland area you would not believe the kind of looks I get for dressing like I do. I was born into suburban heaven and was raised home-schooled with the super-hippy, Express Yourself No Matter What mantra, so I didn't think anything was weird about how I looked until I have the unfortunate event to go to a private high school. Lemme tell you, being anything but straight-white-girl-who-dreses-in-polos-and-khakis meant you were in for it.

So basically, screw people like that. Because you look fabulous and I love how lady-like and soft your dress is and then your hair and sweater is like BAM ANNA IS HERE BITCHES

love,

This means a lot. You know exactly how I feel. <3 Polos and khakis? Haha. Oh man. That's just the worst. I went to a Christian private school for most of my elementary and high school education. I was home school from the 9th grade through 12th (Christian curriculum again) and I grew up in a very conservative household. So, I totally get you. The only difference is that it sounds like your parents encouraged you to be yourself and find your own way. I didn't have that, but I powered through. Hehe. <3

HAHA! This has to be one of my fave posts from you ever! So awesomely unapologetic.

I LOVE the pooping pose. By Love, I mean, I love that you pointed out that it looks like you are pooping. Because it does. :D If you weren't already my fave blogger, pointing that out would have won you over right there!

Ok, so I know you're in the midwest, and being a midwestern girl myself (like, super rural Minnesota), I completely and utterly commiserate with you. I honestly feel sympathy for them because they don't have the confidence that you (we!) have to wear whatever we want (Ok, admittedly I don't always have the confidence to wear exactly whatever I want, but I try to find a happy medium). And they probably don't have nearly as much fun as we do. And they certainly don't/can't express themselves through clothing the way that we do. They're mute to the language of fashion. So that is really a bummer for them.

Here in NZ I stick out because I wear (gasp!) colours. Especially bright ones. Dunedin is full of people wearing black, black, black and off-black with a touch of gray. :/ Dreary as f**k, man.

Keep being your awesome self. Honestly, reading your post made my day! :D

You're the best! <333 Also, I'm really surprised to hear that about NZ. I always assumed people's style of dress would match their personalities (i.e. bubbly, friendly). Given what you said though, I guess you don't have to try very hard to stand out! ;)

Yes, Dunedin's fashion culture is quite dark and gothic.

Here is a good example of 3 of Dunedin's high end and most sought after designers:

I think you will like them, and also see why I don't really fit the fashion mold here! :D

I stopped caring a long time ago about people staring at me. Honestly, even in NYC (and now in LA) it happened/happens. There would just be certain days when I would constantly be wondering if I had something on my face or if I'd spilled something all over myself without realizing it!
