This outfit is totally recycled and I'm super stoked about that. :DDD By "recycled," I mean that each piece has been worn many times in the past and you've seen it all, already. :P The challenge, therefore, lies in taking "used" and "old" pieces and combining them to produce something fresh and different.
Interestingly enough, all I had to do was take a black high low top (one that I've worn a gazillion times on the old blog, because it's f*cking amaze) and wear it backwards. This isn't the first time I've worn it backwards, either. It's kind of my new favorite thing to do. I know the top has a strange cut and it seems kinda one dimensional, but it's all about how you look at things, I guess. I just knew that I'd be able to create all kinds of fun shapes, angles and illusions with this gem. I love it! Worth every penny. <3
Since the front turned out to be a plain sheath of black, I added the charcoal epaulet vest. Best thrift find ever! <3 The details are absolutely stunning and it gives the outfit an extra bit of edge that it lacked.
The sheer floral high low dress hasn't gotten much wear, since I last wore it. I love it to pieces, but I found myself having a difficult time trying to figure out new ways to wear it. I liked that I was able to highlight the skirt of the dress from the back while also adding softness, texture and color to the outfit as a whole. I may have looked super scary from the front, but I would hope to hear some sighs of relief from those who saw the dainty florals in the back. Hehe. ;P I intended to wear sheer black tights to make that nude slip disappear, but I just couldn't bear to wear tights on such a hot day. >_<
Lots of people have items that haven't been getting a lot of wear and that they've probably thought about giving to charity or selling. I hope that posts like these will inspire people to think about whether such items could be salvaged, especially if those items happen to be ones that harbor an emotional attachment. Give the garment a fighting chance before deciding its fate. What you discover from that little bit of effort might surprise you and rekindle the joy that you get from wearing your favorite pieces.
