I'm really pleased with how this whole outfit came together. It's a complete remix of "old" pieces, but re-imagined to create an entirely new ensemble. <3 Although the outfit is pretty layered up, it is not as complex as it seems. I started with a long grey cardigan (it's super comfy!) and I left it completely open. Then, I layered a black high low top over it. After that, I just added an irregular cut black cardigan (long on the sides and short in the back). To play with shapes and angles, I simply brought one side of that black cardigan over my shoulder. I tacked on a pretty rad black zipper jacket and that's basically it! On the bottom, I wore fishnet tights underneath the faux leather zipper leggings.
I have to admit that not all of my dystopian/futuristic outfits are practical. What I mean is that, they're probably more appropriate for a runway than say, riding a subway or eating out at a restaurant. Haha. In my case, I just go about my daily activities and suffer the stares. That being said, it's always nice when a dark, edgy ensemble actually works in a modern setting. When I remove the scarf and sunglasses, the outfit becomes more palatable (from the perspective of so-called ordinary folk heh). I got more stares out on the street in the full ensemble than I did when the layers were removed indoors. ;)
I always say that how you wear an outfit is probably more important than the pieces you are wearing. I think this look is a perfect example of that. I don't think this outfit would look right on just anyone. You kind of need a big set of balls to wear this. Haha. You have to own it, too. The way you walk, the way you stand, the way you gesticulate--it's all tied to the outfit. I find that I become the person that I had initially contemplated when I put the outfit together. This girl is on a mission and will not be deterred.
The fact that it was raining, just added to the ambiance of the outfit. The cold winds were well received, also. They picked up the light fabrics and cast them in different directions which added drama. One of the reasons why I get so much joy out of wearing these outfits is because it's a little bit like practical cosplay. It's not exactly a costume, but I get to be someone else for a day. I get to be that super confident hard ass that I wish I was, but let's face it...I'm a big old squishy, cuddly teddy bear. :P
