Cotton Candy Cane

Here's your colorful palate cleanser for the week. Hehe. Every now and then, I feel like I need to be more feminine. I figured with this array of colors, I couldn't go wrong. Haha. *shrug* I force myself to do things that are outside of my comfort zone, because I think doing so benefits me on a personal level.

Maybe this outfit is a little "twee" or whatever. Maybe it's childish. I really like it, though. I like the colors and patterns. I think the cat hat and patent shoes are cute. It's me. It's 100% me. I'm not going to stop being myself to appease the sensibilities of strangers. That's bullshit. I'm just not going to do it.

I realize this style isn't for everyone. I think that my style in general makes most people uncomfortable. I know I alienate a lot of people with the things that I do with clothing. My style isn't supposed to be for everyone, though. It's supposed to be for me. That's the point, right? I don't think that I need a style that everyone can relate to. I just want to be free to express myself. That freedom means more to me than the acceptance of strangers. Obviously, I don't want to upset people, but, at the same time, that anger isn't really my problem. Heh. Also, getting bent out of shape over someone's style sense is stupid. So, I hope that you guys dig the outfit and that you understand where I'm coming from. Happy Tuesday! ^_^

I'll drink to that! :D Even if you try intentionally to impress someone people will always find something they don't like. They'll always preach you how to live and what to do, I think it's because they're not satisfied with their own existence, otherwise I don't see why they would even care what other people do. If you start dressing "appropriate" they'll find something else like "you have to get pregnant, kid's give meaning to life bla blah"...
So yeah, I totally support you on that one!
And I love this crazy color mixture, omg the rainbow dress is everything!!! :D

Right? You really can't win. You'll just end up miserable and always thinking that you're not good enough. Even so, I still do find myself caring about what people think, but only *certain* people. People whose opinion I really respect. At the end of the day, though, the buck stops with me. So, ultimately, I have to be the one to give that final stamp of approval (and often times I don't, because I mean, you know how self-hating I can be heh). I put so much pressure on myself that I really don't have room to add the additional pressure of living up to the expectations of strangers. It would just be too much.

It's funny, but true. I often endure a cornucopia of reactions when I go out. So, I worry for my partner, because I don't want to embarrass him or bring him negative attention. He never seems to care or let people's reactions get to him, though. He seems to revel in it, actually. Haha. I envy his ability to give no f*cks about stuff like this. I'm still learning how. >_<

So I loooved the outfit and you are 100% right about everything you said! To be oneself is a great thing! There are a couple of quotes about it, like "if people get angry at your style... it's their problem, not yours". And so on! I loved the skirt and the sweater and shoes! I read people saying "I want spring now, so that I can wear bold colors" and I think "we can wear bold colors in any season!" But as you know, that's just my opinion and I respect the ones who disagree. So it's great to see your outfit and bold colors now! Well done, you look beautiful with your cat hat and being 100% yourself!

Oh, right on. Thanks! :D Just so you know, no one was actually mean or nasty to me the day I wore this outfit. So, I'm not venting because someone hurt my feelings or whatever. I just felt like I needed to make a little speech more for myself than anything else. Hehe. Something I can look back on and read, if I need to. That sort of thing. <3

Actually, I went to a coffee shop and I was in the bathroom and a lady walked in and said she loved how bright I was. :D That was nice. In the coffee shop, I ended up meeting and chatting with a really nice dude who had the cutest dog in the world. I wanted to take that dog home immediately. It was adorable. He and I chatted about philosophy and religion. He didn't care that I was wearing rainbow colors and donning an animal hat. Hehe. So, it was OK. <3

As far as I'm concerned, if other people can't see past aesthetic, they're not people you would have wanted to be friends with anyway. I feel that way about my tattoos and neon hair: if they lose me a job, that isn't a work environment I would've wanted anyway.

I'm in love with the plaid dress. I feel like you've blogged it before, but I can't remember what the top looks like. To the archives I go!

I wish I was that fearless. There are so many things I've wanted to experiment with and try to do differently with my appearance that I never ended up exploring because of my profession and the need to be regarded in a certain way. So, I have a ton of respect for you. I long for the day when I can truly be free to explore every avenue of self-expression. <3

Sometimes it is fun to be a bit "twee." You always commit and play with the message/story/style of what you wear. I can get people not liking what you wear, but... getting angry? Why? I mean, I can soooorta see people getting angry at some things. Pajamas in the grocery seem unsanitary to some is an argument I've heard or school dress codes that don't allow drug symbols. there are at least arguments or points to be made about people like them (not that I agree or disagree with any of these examples, but at least I understand they have some sort of reason for their objections). But you're not hurting anybody, you're not offensive or derogatory or any such nonsense. What does it hurt them what you wear? So strange! Especially when you look so friendly and colorful!
