Abracadabra & Hocus Pocus: ASOS Review

Oh, hello! Welcome! I've got a few new things to share and a wild theory. Let's start with that theory.

So, I scored these highly pretentious maroon flats back in December 2012 and I'm having mixed feelings about them. First off, I think they look great. I think they're the most unique flats I've got so far.
I love the contrasting colors and the loafer style. However, they are, as I said, really pretentious. Haha.

My theory is that an evil wizard got pissed at some haughty apprentice or just wanted to play a cruel joke on some rich guy and abracadabra'd one of those fools into a pair of shoes. >:D~

I found that the mossy green skinnies from Nectar Clothing worked really well with the crimson flats. I tried to keep the color scheme rather subdued, since I didn't want to detract from the flats. So, I paired a light grey sweater with the jeans. I got the sweater from ASOS in November 2012 along with a carrot orange pleated skirt and an amazing black fringed poncho.

I read that ASOS brand clothing runs large. The ASOS brand orange skirt I bought is a size 6 with an elasticized waist and the ASOS brand grey sweater is a size 6. I found the skirt to be a tad big in the waist, but it wasn't so annoying that I would send it back. I just know for future reference that I am most likely a size 4 in ASOS skirts. The grey sweater on the other hand fit kind of small. It barely covers the waist line of my low-cut jeans and the sleeves are short. You can see the original product photo here.
It wasn't exactly what I was expecting, but I do have a long torso and monkey arms. Heh.

ASOS Review

My shopping experience with ASOS was hocus pocus related, as well. Haha. Allow me to explain.

It was my first time ordering from ASOS, so I wasn't really sure what to expect. I received an order confirmation by email as well as a shipping confirmation email. However, I didn't receive a proper tracking number. Instead, I was sent a link to a website with "tracking" via a number assigned to my shipment. It was pretty useless, I have to say. Its tracking updates didn't produce any useful information beyond telling me that my item had left some city in New York of which I had never heard.

In the meantime, I read a ton of ASOS horror stories and I started to freak out. The only thing I could do was be patient, so I tried. ASOS did send me a follow up email after about a week telling me that my shipment was four days away from being delivered. I don't know where they got that information from, though. It couldn't have been from the tracking information that they provided previously. The tracking updates revealed nothing useful about the location of my package. At any rate, the parcel eventually arrived and within the specified time frame. So, just be aware that when you buy from ASOS, you're going to be in the dark about where your package is and when exactly it will arrive.

That being said, the items I received were well-made and of high quality. Everything was well-packaged and I received both a return receipt and a pre-paid return shipping label. I'm a big fan of free returns!
All in all, I think I will be a repeat ASOS customer. While I'm not a fan of the crappy tracking info, I didn't experience anything particularly negative with my shipment or with the items I had received.  However, if I do have a bad experience the next time around, you guys will be the first to know about it!

I've ordered a few times from Asos (back when I had money :D), and I was very satisfied. Not only with the quality of the products, but the shipping too. I'm glad we're in the EU :D When I bought a coat for boyfriend, I wanted to get it delivered fast so I payed an extra 7 bucks ( I think) and it got in Bulgaria for 4-5 days.

Let me just say, that those loafer are extremely beautiful! They're pretentious indeed, but that kind of pretentious where you look like a fashion queen when wearing them. Not the pretentious kind where you wonder what the fuck did you bought :D
And you have the coolest hairdos ^_^

Hey missy, Love the combination of subtle colours, and the pretentious shoes haha. I haven't gotten myself a pair of that style as they remind me of grandpa slippers :)

Love ASOS, but am on a shopping ban, so need to save my money!

Giveaway will be announced soon :)

Ahhh, you have brought back the scarf I love.

Your shoes, your bag, your outfit makes you look like you're own your way to a lecture hall to speak about something so intelligent I couldn't handle it. I dig.

love,
a

Haha. :D Your interpretations of my outfits have a way of making me see them in a completely different light. I should go to an art museum with you sometime. ;P You're right, though! I look at the second photo and I've totally got a professor vibe going on. <3

While I never ordered from Asos yet, this was a great post for reference! I will order a size down in bottoms whenever I do and I really love the flats! They are so unique and weird kind of that they just have to be worn and seen! xx Pip

The one thing ASOS has going for it is the FREE SHIPPING. Since I'm way the heck out in the middle of nowhere (NZ, as you know) - it's just like Wow. Wow. There are virtually no other sites that offer free shipping to NZ.

That being said - I've only ordered 1 dress from them and have yet to feature it. It is super cute though! I was a little concerned about the sizing so went up rather than down but it fits just fine.

I would love to see that dress and how you styled it! Yeah, I'm a big fan of free shipping, but also free returns! For example, it sucks buying shoes and having to send them back for $12 which is the case with some on-line stores.
