Don't worry! I'm wearing high waisted shorts under there. :DDD This is a very simple outfit, so I did my best to add aesthetic interest through the use of varied textures and a healthy dose of bright patterns.
My vision for this look was a dark, 80's vibe. Maybe it's just me, but when I watched movies from the 80s, the city scenes were quite disconcerting, especially those of New York City. Everywhere seemed dingy and laden with graffiti and the alleys always seemed so mysterious and not in a very good way.
Of course, this is just what it's like during the daytime. Haha. At night, it seemed that you really wouldn't want to be out and about because a knife wielding skater gang might come after you. o_O O_o Maybe I just didn't watch the right movies....Hehe. Anyway, I wanted to create an outfit that would be fit for a tough city girl from the 80s. I didn't want to be scary, though. Just rough around the edges. ;D
I couldn't help adding these gold glitter suspender tights to the mix. It was actually warm enough to wear them and they sexed up the outfit a bit, I guess. I don't know. I don't really see myself as "sexy." Just the thought makes me laugh. I think the better word to use would be..."interesting?" *shrug*
You do need a certain level of confidence to pull of this look, though. This is even more the case when you add the suspender tights, because they will get people's attention. When my partner and I went out to brunch, the girl behind the counter immediately looked at my thighs and then up at my face. Haha. I thought to myself: "Yes, I know. Also, I don't care." Heh. Certainly, this look isn't everyone's cup of tea.
I loved wearing this outfit, though. So, f*cking whatever, man. Anyway, as you can see, the outfit is really bare bones without the textures of the toggle cardigan and scarf. The retro flip glasses also added some much needed oomph. I broke my first pair and I had been wearing them in their broken state for a long time. Hehe. Basically, I couldn't flip the shades because a hinge snapped. I finally got a chance to replace them, though. ^_^ Ultimately, it is the rad multi-color vintage sweater that carries the outfit.
I got the sweater through my clothing swap group and I'm very happy with it. The colors are rich, retro and awesome. :D It appears to be handmade and there aren't any tags inside. It's scratchy as hell, though, so I'm confident that it's 100% wool. Still, the sweater is incredibly warm and cozy. <3
Hey, what gives? o_O Haha. Well, I just wanted to show you guys what my partner had worn. I always get a kick out of this upcycled vintage auto repair jacket. The name patch and zebra collar are just priceless. Haha. My partner has had it for more than a decade and its pretty battle-worn.
When my partner grabbed the jacket to put it on, he balked at the number of holes in the sleeves and he was visibly upset about it. I asked him if he was careful with the jacket when he wore it or if he generally abuses it. He paused at the question and then said, "Ohhhh. I remember. I used to do poi in this jacket." Hahaha. This brought back so many memories. It's true. My partner used to spin fire and he was really amazing at it. But yeah, that probably explains why there are burn holes in the sleeves. ;P
The shirt he picked out is pretty awesome, too. He's such a nerd and his love for retro video games is just one of the many reasons why I simply adore him. I think that we sometimes look like quite the odd couple when we go out. I'm....rather unpredictable with my style of dress, but my partner is consistently casual. He'll often wear a nerdy t-shirt or an old punk t-shirt, so you can imagine how different he and I may look on occasion. ;D He supports my creativity, though, and he's never embarrassed to be seen with me, though sometimes I think he should be. Haha. <3 He isn't bothered by the people who stare.
He doesn't try to change me and fully accepts me. One thing is for sure: I'm f*cking lucky to have him!
