Happy Wednesday, folks! This one is a doozy! I love, love, love intelligent hip hop. Hell, I love music that makes me think, in general. With CYNE, it's not enough to just listen, you have to be a part of the whole experience. Hence, the band's name which is an acronym for the phrase: Cultivating Your New Experience. This track is from the group's 2005 album, "Evolution of Flight." The lyrics and the snippet of philosophical dialogue at the end is brilliant. This is hands down one of my all-time favorite tracks!
Originally from Gainesville, Florida, this band consists of Akin Yai, Clyde Graham, Michael Gersten and David Newell. As you may have gathered from the track above, the group's music is sociopolitical, introspective and motivational. CYNE's music is heavily influenced by jazz, blues and philosophy.
Unsurprisingly, the group has collaborated with hip hop legend, Nujabes, as well as Four Tet. CYNE has remained quite active since the release of their debut album, "Time Being" in 2003. You'll find a slew of EPs, singles and albums through 2009. CYNE's latest release is a cassette (I know! Awesome! :D) called "Wasteland Vol. 1: Killmore" from October 2011. You can listen to Track A2 below.
