Song of the Day: Maps & Atlases - Winter (Indie) Signing Off...

Signing off with a great track from Maps & Atlases' "Beware and be Grateful" album of 2012. This track also appears as B3 on their latest album, "Daytrotter." The group is based in Chicago and their music is heavily influenced by alternative, rock and experimental music. Some have even called them a "math rock" band. That's a pretty good label, if you ask me. Haha. :P

The band formed back in 2004 when the members (Chris Hainey, Dave Davison, Erin Elders and Shiraz Dada) met in art school. I should also mention that Hainey and Dada are Chicago natives, while Davison is from Indiana and Elders is from Wisconsin.

In 2006 the band self-released the EP "Tree, Swallows, Houses" and it received overwhelmingly positive reviews. Subsequently, the band toured this EP for almost two years and their first installment of records sold out. They released a second batch in 2007 which also sold out. Since then, the group steadily released singles, EPs and albums through 2013. Their latest album, "Daytrotter Presents No. 5" (Jan. 2013) is a collaboration that features three tracks the band released previously along with a cover of the Temptation's classic, "Ain't Too Proud To Beg."

I'll leave you with with one of my favorite tracks (I have so many!) from Maps & Atlases. It appears as Track 11 of the band's debut album, "Perch Patchwork" (2010). I had the privilege of seeing these guys perform live and it was such a treat. So, I found a live video to share with you! I hope you all enjoyed this week's tracks! I've got more awesomeness lined up for next week. Have a great weekend! :D

Song of the Day: Miami Horror - Summer Sun (Indie)

Happy Friday! I love this track! Perfect end of the week tune! This is "Summer Sun" from Australian indie band, Miami Horror. It's from the band's 2010 debut album, "Illumination." I love the disco house influence in this track. I just can't resist a good disco beat. Hehe. Check it out! :D

Benjamin Vanguarde started out releasing remixes under the name, Miami Horror, in 2007. In 2008, he added three members to play guitar, drums and keyboards. Later that year, the group released the five-track EP, "Bravado" which was well received. Things pretty much took off after that as the band starting touring and playing festivals. During 2009 - 2010, the group supported heavyweights like Phoenix and Lily Allen during their Australian tours. However, it was the 2009 single, "Sometimes," that earned the group commercial success. That track appears on the 2010 debut album, "Illumination."

I'm not sure what Vanguarde is up to as of late. His latest release is a single from August 2011 called the "Under The Milky Way." It's pretty rad. Great summer road trip music. I leave you with that track! :D I hope you enjoyed this week's tunes! I've got a trick up my sleeve for later today, so come on back!

Hey, there! Here's a great artist to follow Montag. :D This is Sam Herring's, "On The Water" from his 2011 album of the same name. It's one of my favorite tracks from that album, though I have so many.

As for current news, it appears that Herring hasn't released anything this year and it's not clear whether he has plans to do so. There are, however, two releases from 2012, both 7 inches, that you may be interested in: "Tomorrow / The Fountain" and "Less Artists More Condos Vol. 2." I'll leave you with Herring's track from Less Artists. It's called "Cotton Flower" and it's so perfect. *sigh* I love this man.

Never heard of Future Islands? That's crazy, man. You should totally get all up on this previous post about the band. You'll find a video from when I saw the band perform live in Portland for Music Fest Northwest. Herring is an amazing and intense performer. Check his website for tour dates!
