Who the f*ck doesn't know Joe Bataan? This man needs no introduction. I mean he IS the King of Latin Soul. This track is from Bataan's 2005 album, "Call My Name." If you're never heard of Joe Bataan, check out his website and listen to some of his tracks. As I've said previously, I'm a sucker for old Motown soul and, being Jamaican, I'm partial to any kind of music where trumpets dominate. ;) Bataan's music is so rich and timeless (and trumpet heavy!). Here's another one of my favorites:
This song reminds me of old reggae from the 50's and 60's. This sound is akin to that of Jamaican legends, Alton Ellis, U-Roy and Dennis Brown---artists that I grew up listening to and greatly respecting as a young girl. This kind of music shaped me in so many ways. I'd like to think that it made me a better person...more thoughtful, introspective and appreciative of how beautiful music can come from tragic circumstances in life. Anyway, that's enough about me. I should also mention that Mayer Hawthorne has got this sound down pat! It's nice to see a contemporary artist keeping this kind of sound alive.
Have a great weekend! Next week, I'll share several DnB tracks for your listening pleasure. (^_^)v
