Signing off with a beautiful track by Derwin Panda of Gold Panda. It is Track 6 from the 2010 album, "Lucky Shiner." This was the first track that got me into Gold Panda. When I heard it, I felt compelled to find everything Gold Panda had produced. Lucky Shiner is one of only two albums Derwin produced in 2010 and his releases date back to just 2009, so I didn't have far back to go in my search. However,
I liked what I found and I kept an eye on Gold Panda ever since.
If you like Lone, Bibio and/or Boards of Canada, you're sure to be enamored with Gold Panda. Derwin's latest creation is the "Mountain/Financial District" EP (June 2012). You can listen to it on Derwin's SoundCloud page. I really like "Mountain." It's like a mix of ambient, dub step and hip hop.
Just some additional fun facts about Derwin: he lived in Japan for a short time and he studied at the School of Oriental and African Studies at the University of London. I think the latter explains the palpable tribal elements in a lot of this tracks and in "Mountain" especially.
Anyway, that's it for this week. I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend. I've got lots of good stuff in store for next week, so be sure to check back!
