Happy Wednesday! There are only a few more days left until the weekend, so keep your head up and your nose clean. You'll be maxin' and relaxin' before you know it. :D Here's a track that will hopefully make your day go by a little bit faster. It's a classic deep house tune from Dubtribe Sound System, a duo from San Francisco. This track is from the "El Regalo De Amor" 12 inch of July 1998.
Sunshine Jones, an ex-punk rocker and Bay Area native started out doing hip hop. After visiting Ibiza in 1989, he converted to house music. According to Jones, he saw party goers of "all shapes and sizes getting together to dance [to house music]... I wanted to share that. It changed me forever." When he returned to San Francisco, Jones formed an acid-jazz band and in 1990, he took on Moonbeam Jones as a vocalist. It wasn't easy trying to transform the band into a house music group and the group eventually dwindled, leaving just Sunshine and Moonbeam to carry on as Dubtribe Sound System.
Things eventually took off and the duo released their first 90-minute cassette, "Live At We Are Family" in 1997, followed by the "Bryant Street" album of 1999. That album featured an eclectic mix of deep house, tribal house and future jazz. Sunshine and Moonbeam steadily released a slew of singles, EPs and albums, through 2005, before the group called it quits. They still do live shows, however. According to their official webpage, they're booked through October 2013. If you can see them play live, you should! From what I understand, they are excellent live performers. I hope you enjoy this track! :D
