I wanted to create something thoughtful and beautiful; something to listen to while warming up with a rye whiskey and watching the snow fall. I have deep love for jazz and as much as I love jazzy hip hop,
I didn't want to create a mix that was just one jazzy hip hop track after another. I love those mixes. I've heard a lot of them, but I wanted to do something a little different. I don't recall ever listening to a hip hop mix that incorporated unfiltered/remixed vintage jazz and doo-wop. So, I set out to create the kind of mix that I would want to hear and that I would listen to over and over again until the end of my days.
This mix was a real challenge. I oscillated between Serato and vinyl much more than I normally do. Also, I experimented with manipulating the vinyl as well as exaggerated pitch. I wanted to learn new techniques, but tried not to go overboard. My main focus was to seamlessly incorporate jazz and hip hop. I wanted the transitions to feel as natural as a sunrise and sunset. Happy New Year! You can download the mix, here. Please enjoy! <3
