Happy Wednesday! Here's a track from Barry Lynn of Boxcutter. Lynn hails from Nothern Ireland and his music has been described as "post-dubstep," which is largely characterized by fusing dubstep sounds with that of other genres. This particular label makes sense, as many of Lynn's tracks have a palpable UK Garage and 2-step sound, which I love. The track above is a perfect example of this. It's #8 on Lynn's latest album entitled "The Dissolve." Check out Lynn's SoundCloud for additional tracks!

Joe Bush of BNRY It's difficult to obtain info about BNRY. He's rather elusive on the internet. Heh. I had never even heard of BNRY until very recently. Here's what I know. Joe Bush is the sole member and he's based in London. I don't believe he has released any albums, to date. However, he has produced a number of singles and remixes. Bush released "Oral B" in June 2011. It's a thoughtful and super chill track. Around the same time, Bush put out a kick ass dubstep remix of Kelly Rowland's, "Dilemma." You can listen to it below! Check out BNRY's SoundCloud page for the latest releases. It'll be dubstep and tech-house all week long, so stick around! :D Starting off the week with something a little different. I haven't done any dubstep, yet, so I thought now would be as good a time as any. I'm still relatively new to the genre, so I've only got a few favorites. But hey, favorite songs are like best friends. You only need a few really good ones to get by, right? ;) Anyway, today's featured artist is Travis Stewart of Machinedrum and he's from North Carolina. Apparently, there's a lot of good music, including electronica, out of North Carolina (e.g., Toro y Moi, Dreams West). Stewart started Machinedrum during his final years in high school (1998 - 1999). He released his first album,"Now You Know," in 2001. Pitchfork described it as the "standard to which the next wave of imitators aspires." The track above is #8 on Stewart's latest album, "Rooms" (2011). Stewart's latest EP is "SXLND" (Jan. 2012). It's described as a mix of house and electro, which is quite a deviation from his previous work. Below is Track 4 from SXLND. I love when a track's vocals sound like an instrument. In this track, the vocals blend in with the other samples beautifully. What do you think? I think it's a great tech-house track! If you like what you've been hearing, be sure to check out Machinedrum's official webpage for more info. |
