5 Ways To Style A T-Shirt

Ohhhhh shit, ya'll. I'm coming at you with opinions! Brace yourselves! Hehe. ;D~ In this post, I'll show you several different ways that I've styled t-shirts in the past and give you some insight into my style process. I have an affinity for seasonless fashion. So, the idea of putting away clothes for several months because they're 'out of season' makes me absolutely insane. What a waste! Obviously you wouldn't want to wear a sweater in the summer or a tank top in the winter for comfort reasons. You can  still can get away with wearing tees all year round, though! In that regard, layers are your friend. :P

Traditionalist Twist

There's nothing new about a t-shirt and jeans pairing. It's tried and true. So, put a spin on it to set yourself apart from the masses. :DDD You can tread lightly or you can really pack a wallop. It's up to you! Tie it in a knot; add suspenders; play around with patterns; switch out the jeans for denim capris, overalls or shortalls. Better yet, you could simply wear a bright colored pair of jeans, instead of denim.

Geek Chic

How do you celebrate your geekiness without wearing a tee that says 'GEEK' on it? By the way, I think those tees are super cute, but they *can* unfortunately make you look like a poser. ;F Try wearing a less obvious nerdy tee that you personally love and style it with a blazer or high waisted skirt for a little sophistication. Alternatively, you can be a little edgy and scary and do a dramatic ensemble by adding layers and textures. You could also take the opposite approach and use the tee as a means to dress down or diffuse a more serious looking outfit, kind of like comic relief in a dark thriller. :D

The Tomboy

Just because I'm wearing a t-shirt doesn't mean that I can't kick your ass. >=[~ Simply add a tie, suspenders, or loafers for a harsher edge. If you're not comfortable with wearing such overtly masculine pieces, just roll up your sleeves to give off a muscle tee vibe. That's the easiest way to add edge or sex appeal to a tee, IMO. I have an affinity for confidently androgynous women, though. So, I'm biased. ;)

Anyway, work the tee however you want, but own it. How you carry yourself makes up the sum of your outfit, too, not just the pieces you've put together. Now, I'm not saying you need to go buy a harness or start investing in men's bow ties. Hehe. Don't put on a front. Do what feels sufficiently edgy to you. If you're uncomfortable with the outfit, then why wear it? Don't force something that doesn't feel right.

The Man Repeller

Oh and speaking of uncomfortable situations, there's what I call the "man repeller" tee style. Just say 'F*ck it. I do what want bish!' In this case, it's not about dressing to impress, but dressing to kill. >=]
You give no f*cks about whether people will like the look. All you care about is whether *you* love it.

Everyone else can just literally drop dead. Heh. So, you have complete freedom with this one. w00t! You don't have to agonize over proportions or whether certain colors or patterns go together (if you don't want to). Just choose pieces you love and make it work in your own way. That being said, try to bring a method to your madness. Haha. While you don't care about unfavorable reactions, you don't want to be dismissed as an amateur, either. Your outfit should seem effortless, but also deliberate. ;)

Vintage Modern

Finally, try wearing a tee with your favorite vintage pieces. <3 I love mixing old with new and there's nothing better than an old vintage tee worn over a vintage dress or nestled in a cozy vintage cardigan. You'll always end up with a unique outfit. It's fool proof! So if you're ever in a funk, just add vintage! :P

I guess this is my man repellent outfit for the week. Hehe.  I'm a woman and women are supposed to wear dresses, so here's your damn dress. Oh, but it has all of these crazy lines all over it and the front is longer than the back and the over-sized pockets screw up the pattern in such a way that it dazzles your eyes. Sorry, dudes! >:D Oh and then I wore pants with the dress. So annoying, because now you can't see my legs! >:DD Oh and then I put on some scary sunglasses, instead of heart shaped ones. >:DDD Hahaha. Deal with it, bros. Deal with it! You know, I truly believe that man repellent style is an art form. It's not about throwing a bunch of unrelated sh*t together so you can look like a crazy person.

At least, that's not the way that I approach it. I think that there has to be a "method to your badness," if you will. It's not about wearing something that looks terrible in order to fend off the opposite sex. It's about trying to create a harmonious cacophony. o_O You want to try to strike that musical note that is off putting to some people, but not everyone. The outfit should be an acquired taste of sorts.

You don't have to wear something ugly in order to be offensive. Just being different is enough to make certain people uncomfortable. Knowing the gender stereotypes that most men cling to, it's easy to manipulate those stereotypes and put them to work in your favor without ending up wearing an outfit that makes you look like you got dressed in the dark and you have no style sense whatsoever. Heh.

I think it's really hard to strike that sickly sweet melody for man repellent style. It takes a lot of care and focus and I believe it is possible to get it completely wrong. I have a lot of respect for those ladies who can manage to hit that note and still maintain their ultimate sense of style. That being said, I'm not sure where this outfit would land in the cacophonous spectrum of successful man repellent style. At least, I can say that I stayed true to myself. Rest assured, if I didn't like this outfit, I wouldn't have worn it. ;P

So, what are your thoughts about man repellent style? Do I have it all wrong? ;)~
