Don't worry! I'm wearing high waisted shorts under there. :DDD
This is a very simple outfit, so I did my best to add aesthetic interest through the use of varied textures and a healthy dose of bright patterns.

Picture

My vision for this look was a dark, 80's vibe. Maybe it's just me, but when I watched movies from the 80s, the city scenes were quite disconcerting, especially those of New York City. Everywhere seemed dingy and laden with graffiti and the alleys always seemed so mysterious and not in a very good way.

Of course, this is just what it's like during the daytime. Haha. At night, it seemed that you really wouldn't want to be out and about because a knife wielding skater gang might come after you. o_O O_o
Maybe I just didn't watch the right movies....Hehe. Anyway, I wanted to create an outfit that would be fit for a tough city girl from the 80s. I didn't want to be scary, though. Just rough around the edges. ;D

Picture

I couldn't help adding these gold glitter suspender tights to the mix. It was actually warm enough to wear them and they sexed up the outfit a bit, I guess. I don't know. I don't really see myself as "sexy." Just the thought makes me laugh. I think the better word to use would be..."interesting?" *shrug*

You do need a certain level of confidence to pull of this look, though. This is even more the case when you add the suspender tights, because they will get people's attention. When my partner and I went out to brunch, the girl behind the counter immediately looked at my thighs and then up at my face. Haha. I thought to myself: "Yes, I know. Also, I don't care." Heh. Certainly, this look isn't everyone's cup of tea.

Picture

I loved wearing this outfit, though. So, f*cking whatever, man. Anyway, as you can see, the outfit is really bare bones without the textures of the toggle cardigan and scarf. The retro flip glasses also added some much needed oomph. I broke my first pair and I had been wearing them in their broken state for a long time. Hehe. Basically, I couldn't flip the shades because a hinge snapped. I finally got a chance to replace them, though. ^_^ Ultimately, it is the rad multi-color vintage sweater that carries the outfit.

Picture

I got the sweater through my clothing swap group and I'm very happy with it. The colors are rich, retro and awesome. :D It appears to be handmade and there aren't any tags inside. It's scratchy as hell, though, so I'm confident that it's 100% wool. Still, the sweater is incredibly warm and cozy. <3

Picture

Hey, what gives? o_O Haha. Well, I just wanted to show you guys what my partner had worn. I always get a kick out of this upcycled vintage auto repair jacket. The name patch and zebra collar are just priceless. Haha. My partner has had it for more than a decade and its pretty battle-worn.

When my partner grabbed the jacket to put it on, he balked at the number of holes in the sleeves and he was visibly upset about it. I asked him if he was careful with the jacket when he wore it or if he generally abuses it. He paused at the question and then said, "Ohhhh. I remember. I used to do poi in this jacket." Hahaha. This brought back so many memories. It's true. My partner used to spin fire and he was really amazing at it. But yeah, that probably explains why there are burn holes in the sleeves. ;P

Picture

The shirt he picked out is pretty awesome, too. He's such a nerd and his love for retro video games is just one of the many reasons why I simply adore him. I think that we sometimes look like quite the odd couple when we go out. I'm....rather unpredictable with my style of dress, but my partner is consistently casual. He'll often wear a nerdy t-shirt or an old punk t-shirt, so you can imagine how different he and I may look on occasion. ;D He supports my creativity, though, and he's never embarrassed to be seen with me, though sometimes I think he should be. Haha. <3
He isn't bothered by the people who stare.

Picture

He doesn't try to change me and fully accepts me. One thing is for sure: I'm f*cking lucky to have him!

Yes, I just went from futuristic harbinger of misfortune to sugary sweet maiden. o_O This may come as a surprise to new visitors of my blog, but the rest of you have probably gotten used to this kind of behavior. I think a good rule of thumb for reading my blog is: expect the unexpected. Hehe.

Picture

That and maybe lower your expectations? Haha. I don't know. My style can be hit or miss and even jarring at times. I think when I succeed, I succeed big and when I fail, I fail really hard. I don't do anything half-ass. Better to keep your seat belt fastened at all times! So, what do I have going on here, today? Well, I basically threw together lots of colorful pieces and included a cheeky surprise. :P

I started with the
earthy brown scarf and went from there. I received it from my sponsor, Oasap, and it's reasonably priced at $7.90. I desperately needed a scarf in this color, so I'm very happy to have it! I ended up getting two more of these in taupe and mustard. :D The scarf comes in many colors!

Picture

Yes, that is a creepy apple face staring at you from behind my back. Haha. I felt like the outfit needed a really bright pop of color besides that of the vintage mustard mittens. I didn't like how the print on the hat looked from the front. I thought it was a bit distracting. So, I got the bright idea to turn the hat around so it would just be plain red in the front. This resulted in a fun surprise for people behind me. ^_^
Look at that leaf and stem! :DDD This hat is so cute! My partner's mother gave it to me as a gift. Everyone who knows me knows how much I love hats, including those of the animal variety. ;D I didn't have any fruit hats, though. Well, that is, until now. I might draw the line at apples though. I think I would look ridiculous with a banana on my head. Haha. Not all fruits make good hats, I'm afraid. :F~

Picture

In addition to the brown scarf, I added more warm colors to counteract the bright hat and gloves. You might recognize the beautiful wooden button green coat. I last wore it in
this post with a floral dress.

The textured carrot orange skirt is one of my favorite purchases. The color is perfect and it paired nicely with my Bershka mixed pattern teal sweater.
It's my only orange skirt, too. I should probably get another one just for a bit of variety, eh? Hehe. Oh and you can see better views of the sweater here.

Picture

While we were running errands, I saw a lot of brown, grey and black figures shuffling around downtown. I know how depressing this time of year can be, so I hope I turned some Winter frowns upside down!
