I did something sweet and then I did sophisticated and now I'm doing rough and tumble. Hehe. Admittedly, this is more in my comfort zone. I wore the fantastic vintage plaid dress in a rather elegant way, last year. Click here to see how I had styled it for Fall weather. It's the perfect dress for Autumn due to the blended patterns of dark earthy hues. I didn't want to wait until Fall to wear it again. So, here is how I decided to style it for Summer. ^_^ The outfit is a little bit intimidating, but I'm OK with it. Hehe.
If the star of the show is the vintage plaid dress, then the supporting cast would be the dark bohemian fringed handbag, steampunk sunglasses, faux leather jacket and zippered ankle boots. The fringed bag probably seems like an odd choice juxtaposed with the dress, but allow me to explain.
When I look at this dress on a hanger and think of what kinds of bags would pair well with it, I think of nice satchels and worn vintage backpacks with lots of character. In that regard, the fringe bag would certainly be out of place. However, when it is taken as just a small part of a larger picture, things start to change. It's not just the bag, but the boots, the steampunk sunglasses, the unconventional hair style and my general attitude (which probably accounts for 40% of the overall look hehe) that are needed to connect the dots of the constellation that is the entire outfit. So, I think everything I added makes sense.
I think all of the pieces work together in such a way that the dress is no longer a rustic vintage piece. It has a whole new personality. Sometimes a garment can have a transformative effect on the wearer, but in this instance I endeavored to turn the tables a bit. I rather like how everything turned out. ^_^
