I'll Catch You When You Fall

It was a fairly nice day. The wind was a little bit cold, so all of the heavy knits kept me feeling pretty great. :D We had decided to take a long walk to a coffee shop and just kind of hang out on their patio sipping drinks and watching passersby (who did as much watching of me as I did of them, let me tell you haha). I couldn't help but feel a bit like the neighborhood jester. Heh. A lot of people stared at me and, though I managed to garner a few smiles, I still felt pretty weird for the most part. :F~

Ya'll know how I feel about wearing bright colors. >_< Give me some comforting earth tones and I'm happy as can be. Hehe. However, I went out of my comfort zone by combining some unconventional hues. I had never seen teal, orange and yellow in a color blocked outfit before and I happen to like how all of those colors work together, so I took a stab at wearing them. :P As usual, I played around with textures to make the outfit more interesting to look at. The deep pattern work in the teal sweater is really fantastic! I was on the fence about adding the trapeze necklace, but it was a nice touch in the end.

NewChic Review

The vintage style black backpack is from my sponsor, Newchic. It costs about $14. I received this bag and two more items, which I will style and review in some upcoming posts. This backpack looks exactly like the product photo on the website and the on-line measurements appear to be accurate. I compared the on-line measurements to that of my laptop and I had concluded that the bag would be big enough for it. Sure enough, when I put my laptop in there, it fit perfectly and with a ton of room to spare. So, I'm really pleased! I have a studded black backpack, which also fits my laptop, but it's kind of edgy and maybe even a little intimidating. Hehe. It wouldn't work with many outfits, but I think this bag will. :DDD

My package arrived in about 11 days after receipt of the shipping notification, which is not bad. I believe the package was subject to expedited shipping, though. On that note, be advised that shipping will likely be pretty costly depending on what you get, because it's based on weight. The total cost of shipping for my package was $18.99 (flat rate) with an expedited shipping cost of about $29. You also have the option of doing Priority Direct which is slightly cheaper than expediting shipping and Express Mail Service, which is the most expensive. If you want a tracking number for your flat rate shipment, it will cost an extra $2.60, though tracking appears to be included with the other three shipping options.

The items I received were well packaged (each item had their own sealed plastic bag with bar coded labels and all of the items were wrapped in tear resistant tyvek). The quality of the backpack appears to be fairly good. It has one large front pocket and one large inner pocket. There are no slots for a phone or interior zippers for other accessories. Time will tell in terms of how it holds up to constant abuse. Overall, I'm pleased with my shopping experience with Newchic and I probably would buy something from them in the future, but probably just a single item like a really nice bag or coat, due to the shipping.

I'm afraid that my next post will be of the bipolar variety, because it's going to be on the scary side. O_o I just feel like I have to warn you. Hehe. Stay tuned! Hope ya'll have a kick ass weekend! <3

Depth Of Obscurity

I figured it had been awhile since I tapped into that weirdo part of my brain that is both eccentric and slightly scary. o_O So, here's the result! Hehe. I put on a ton of layers and my best serious face before stepping outside and probably scaring pretty much anyone with which I came into contact. :DDD

Picture

It was a fairly brisk day, but I did manage to peel away the layers of the outfit a bit, so you could see the method to my madness. :P Here, you can see that I'm wearing a grey fringed cardigan underneath my black coat. You can sort of make out the ombre effect in my skinny jeans and I seem to be wearing a buttoned scarf, but it's actually a textured shrug. ;D~ It's one of my favorite pieces in my wardrobe. <3

Picture

When I remove the coat, I just pull the shrug down over my shoulders and now the fringe cardigan is partially hidden underneath. You get to see more of my ombre jeans and you might even notice a little peek of lace on my arms. ;D I wore a sheer lace bodysuit underneath, but I wasn't feeling brave enough to show off my stomach area (plus it was kinda cold, bro hehe), so I wore a loose fitting top over it.

Altogether, I wore five layers on top, but I still managed to avoid looking bulky. :P From the angle of these photos, I hope to give you a better look at the mix of textures in the outfit. This is something to which I tend to give a lot of thought when I do layered up outfits. I love to see different grains, loose knits, tight knits, sheer fabrics, multi-directional lines, a variety of lengths, angles and shapes, etc.

Picture

Believe it or not, these ombre jeans are really hard for me to style. Every time I start to think about novel ways to style them, I get a headache. >_< So far, I seem to be most comfortable pairing them with dark, neutral tones. Click here to see how I styled them for winter a couple of years ago. You'll notice that I used a similar, conservative color scheme. I'm going to try to experiment with patterns, next time. =]

Picture

Right. I hope this outfit wasn't too scary or weird for you. Hehe. I think it's pretty cool. :D My next post will be bright and colorful and a lot less scary. So, hang in there and all that. It'll be OK. I promise! <3
